I tend to play more hands in ring games due to the size of blinds. I have read in a few places that it is recommended that in a no limit cash game it is advisable to take at least 50X the big blind to the table. This means that to see an unraised pot you only commit 2% of your stack throughout the game. In an MTT after a few rounds with the blinds increasing it may cost 10% or more of your stack just to see the flop, even unraised.
You've got to be careful of your bankroll whatever your play but I personally find it much easier to stay in control playing single table tournaments online. I'm fine with ring games at home or casino but I get too keen in them online.
Definately the strategy for online (and B&M) ring games is to just sit and grind out the hourly profit if you can - for me this gets tedious online.
At least with tournaments you know exactly what your trying to achieve and you get a good deal of time to get to know they players. You also get this in a B&M game as they don't tend to up and leave like they do online.
I prefer to play in SNG and MTT's alot less hands seen and if I am sucked out on I am not reaching in my pocket to get more money and throw it away cause I am on TILT. lol
In ring games I see even less hands then i do in tournament play. I play more tight at the ring tables lol alot more . I think u can't be too aggresive at a ring table game. someone like me is just wating to bust you. so i take the catious road at ring tables
