How would u guys play top set on flop

hand 8 8 earley postion agenst 3 non aggrasive players all behind me
the flop comes 2 6 8
What should i have done

the way i played was checked got min rasie everyone called i rasied 6 big blinds and everyone floded

interesting hand - I would generally say you should always bet trips on the flop

especially with it being top pair but a mid range pair - 8's which means no scary cards on the flop which would make others instant fold (eg. Ace / King)

that said you need to bear in mind there is a flush draw on the flop - so by checking your giving them a great chance to make the hand on the turn, this is also the case with a standard bet

given that you have picked up that the 3 following players are passive / non aggressive players - your worried that you will scare them off

I'm guessing that your thinking when they folded to the re-raise this proves it and they wouldnt have called a bet had you led out originally

I dont think this would have been the case - you need to remember that generally a check raise is seen as a show of strength

so I think the "mistake" was to check / raise so obviously - I'd have put you on 88 or 66 without question

at the end of it you picked up some bets so its not a really bad play - but Im guessing your kicking yourself ?

I would have bet out - maybe 1 or 2 bets and hope for a re-raise or at least 2 calls and then push again on the turn assuming no more clubs

if you had bet out even modest amount I think they would have called and someone would have re-raised

you could then have passed off a re-re-raise as you not buying their hand - this would have probably got a single call for the bigger bet or another raise where decide to push again or see the turn and hope to hell they dont hit the flush

hope thats a help - short answer always bet out with trips - even if its a 1x 2x min bet
