I guess it depends on your personal financial situation. I found online poker 4-5 years ago and money was very tight. I started playing open freerolls and soon found forum freerolls. I spent about a year playing virtually nothing but freerolls during which time I learnt a hell of a lot about playing poker despite the so called donks.
I gradually built up small bankrolls in a few sites and moved on to forum buyins. I don't claim to be the greatest player in the world but I show a monthly profit which I think was helped by the practice in freerolls. Would I have reached this stage quicker if I had been in a position to deposit immediately...who knows. Personally I think I would have lost a lot of money during this learning period.
Hello,
I think that freerolls are a great training if you just started playing poker because in freerolls you learn the best how to have patience and get familiar with the game. But after that I think everybody shoud advance to the real games if they want to improve their game.
I agree that Freerolls help one to become a better poker player in general. You are exposed to every kind of poker player there is. It is a great way for someone to start a bankroll who either can't or doesn't want to deposit money on poker sites. I play freerolls, buy-ins and sit-n-gos. Have fun everyone and Good Luck at the tables!
Hi there new to the forum and hope to see everyone at the tables. For what it's worth i think freerolls are an excellent way to begin learning the game. However all freerolls are not equal and it pays to hunt around a bit to get a good deal. This hit home for me when i'd played for over three hours on Partypoker against a huge field to cash for around 11 cents! The winner only received around $10.
If you are anything at all like a profitable player then this is a huge waste of your time.
The standard of play in freerolls is often crazy with all ins every hand and because of this it could be argued that playing against poor players won't help you improve your game that much. I think playing micro stakes sngs is a much better place to cut your poker teeth.

Well a lot of people just go all-in on the 1st hand, but after about 1/2 to 2/3 of the people are out you actually start playing "true poker" . But they're deffinatly worth playing.
