After playing in freerolls for about a year. I began to consistently place. I won $5.00 on the pokerstars Bahamas freeroll awhile back. I turned the 5 in to 87 playing in low buy in sit & goes BUT I couldn't stop playing, no matter how tired I became or how sick of playing I was. I started playing like shit and lost it all. Does anyone here have the discipline to stop when you know it's time?

That's tough. My husband does the same thing and I haven't figured out how to get him to stop when he needs to. About the only thing that saves him is running out of money. You game really will improve if you take a few days off. Good luck with it.
i think knowing when to stop its one of the most important things on poker. I have had some losses because of that too, i think it might be good to put a limit on ourselves like i have to win 5$ or lose a maximum of 3$ and everytime u exceed one of those numbers u have to quit.
If i know im not playing my best sometimes i enjoy playing HORSE or STUD on the play money tables, that way im not loosing money and im learning how to play these other games.

the moment you start to get tired you need to stop playing. your body triggers chemicals that make you play bad lol.. your mind stops focusing on the actuall game and just trying to finish however you will lose then you figure you need to play another. just stop at the first sign of tiredness that is the best thing you can do
it is easy to get distracted. So pay attention to what you are doing. LOL i did it today misread what was on the board thought i had a straight. and bet accordingly. lol boy was i shocked.
OK Last night I had just cashed in a net tournement, It was not the tournement I wanted to play but because of the time difference I played this one while I waited for the ONE I wanted to play to start (hope you are all with me so far)
Now my tip:- I like to leave this forum up and read it to while away the boredom of not getting AA every hand..
I had this tourny up in carbon with every intention of going in it 2 mins before it started, so I should not of even contemplated this tourny I WAS TIRED, I had just played one, well you get me drift.
So I was reading a interesting post in here and forgot about the tourny and missed the buy-in~~Now by pure chance This Forum helped me to go to bed and stop being a greedy bastard~~~
Also a by product of this is......
It was more important for me to read about poker than play it ie:
Education over Assumed Knowledge! ...I think this is positive
i had a horrible experience about 2-3 years ago online, which i guess has helped me in the long run and will make sure i wont ever do again...
pokerroom had given me $20 free to come back and play, i hadnt played there in a while.. so i checked it out and i have never been on such a hot run as i was during these 3-4 days.. $20 turned into nearly $1200 ... my greedy ass ended up losing all $1200 lol... after such a hot streak, you think it can happen just the same with a blink of an eye.. in reality, you can lose just as fast as you can win, if not faster... it was money i never had, but it was a nice chunk of change that i coulda used.. either way, lesson learned
actually, you tend to lose a lot faster than you win. if you truly have trouble disciplining yourself, then you are going to take that $1200 you won and sit down at a $500 table or a $1000 table. you have the money, you figure you'll give it a shot. problem is, one bad decision, one unlucky draw, and you've lost your roll.
the key is to stay at the level you're beating.
when you're tired, get up. stop playing. you're not at a job. you can play for 3 hours or 6, whatever you'd like. you don't have to put in 8 hours a day.
