Phil Gordon
Phil has a quick way of explaining your odds of hitting your cards, the rule of 4 and 2. Take the number of outs you have after the flop. Multiply by 4 if there are two cards left. Multiply by 2 if there is only river card to come. This gives you a rough percentage.
So if you had 4 to a flush draw, after the flop you have 9 outs (9 more cards in the suit to make your flush). 9x4=36. So you have 36% chance of hitting your flush. If only one card still to come then you only have 18%.
Lets say there is 100 in the pot, and your opponent bets 100 at the flop. 2 to 1 odds for you to call, Similar ballpark to the percent chance you have, this makes the pot odds favorable. If you both checked the flop and he made that bet on the turn, then that would not be favorable pot odds.
There are some video clips of Phil Gordon's lessons online that explain this a bit clearer.
