    Default Hold'Em Jargon

    Hello there,

    I just joined up and am interested in learning the jargon surrounding this game. These are a couple of the terms that someone defined for me recently, but I just want to confirm the definitions:

    Roadie: a pair of cards that you have an unreasonable fondness for and will (almost) always play even if it doesnt make good poker sense;

    Donkey: does this mean 'the biggest idiot/loser at the table'?

    Betting Smoke: betting without looking at your cards;

    Straddle Bet: this is something I'm confused by... a second big blind or something (played according to random local rules)

    * Please * correct and add to this list. Are any of these right? I understand that some of these may be uncommon regional terms.

    Thanks very much.

    Here is a pretty cool site with Poker Terms.
    Poker Glossary

    Here is another good one
    Online Poker Terms - Poker Dictionary

    I have not heard a few of your terms, but:
    Donkey is a weak or bad player. You could have more than one at a table. Sometimes, you can play like a donkey, even if you are not one.

    Betting in the dark, is betting before you see the next cards. For example you have completed betting after getting your hole cards, and bet $20 in the dark. Implying you will bet $20 after the flop.

    What does "rabbit" mean?

    Rabbit means run the cards out even though the hand is over. Just to see what he next card or cards were.

    Default rabbit feature online

    hi

    no worries sandman those sorts of links are fine - proper legit information is cool - but not the bonus stuff ;-)

    on the rabbit front - it's when you find out what would have been, obviously you would be highly unpopular if you wanted to rabbit every hand in a live game but it's a nice feature for those of us who are eternally curious or want to know "what if"

    the sites on the Merge Poker network have a rabbit feature where you can rabbit for cards in online games -

    the flagship sites owned by the network operator are Carbon Poker & Poker.com

    also worth checking out are newer skins on the Merge Network - Poker Nordica, Iron Duke Poker & Reefer Poker

    cheers scrawnybob

    ps. they're also good for freerolls

    Default straddle bet

    If you watch High Stakes Poker you will see this a lot. It is an optional bet to boost the blinds up in a cash game where the blinds always stay low.

    There is a explanation here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betting_(poker)
