i think thats the best
I think this is solid advice from the start,
and some things for new players to keep in mind:
There is no one "Best" strategy.
You need to be thinking when you are playing.
-what cards are you holding (odds),
-what cards are your opponents holding (do you hold the best hand or could you hold the best hand with an out)
-what cards do your opponents think you have (are you able to bluff, or slow play, and what way of playing will profit you best in this situation over the long run)
These are just general concepts,
I think before you read a players' strategy guide, do some playing, keep stats of your hands, and pay attention to the game. Try to develop your own playing style, and keep your opponents guessing. keep in mind, if i know you're playing a certain style, you will be predictable, and I will be able to counter you. Once you have a feel for the game (whether you're winning or losing) take suggestions from other players, and test them out (don't take them for granted) use other players' intuitions to help improve your game.
Best thing to learn is experience, or someone with experience to teach you.
Second best is reading a good book, me thinks.
But i will check out the site, I didn't knew there were poker-learning sites
Good thread
As a new player my self I dont know if this is good advice or not. But what I did was enter the big freerolls on pokerstars and set myself targets ie get to the first break, get to the last 500, get to the last 10 tables and hopefuly get in pay out. I think this teached me the patchence needed for playing poker. And stops me geting traped in the all in frensy at the start of these type of games.
I think the new player freerolls are great on Carbon. Like any freeroll the play isn't necessarily tight or easy, but it really can help you hone in on discipline and will give you a chance to witness the basic ins and outs of poker. GL out there.
I start in PokerStrategy.com but the really important thing is the experience and the persistence
