I agree with most of the posts here that say that playing with practice money is not the way to learn. If you want to practice with play money avoid getting caught up in the "all-in madness", and try to build your play money so that you can play the higher buy in play money tables. The players here have worked hard to earn large play monet stacks, and are less inclined to go all in on a crappy hand just for the fun of it.

I recommend play money until you are 100% used to the software of the site you are going to be playing on. It is a small advantage, but if you are unfamiliar you stand a good chance of hitting the wrong button at the wrong time (raising instead of calling or soemthing like that) and you can focus on all of the activity on the table without thinking about it. Also, you want to make sure your comfortable with the layout of the site. Even a small nuisance can become a big pain in the ass when you play 1000's of hands. You can also use play money to train yourself to read the board accurately.
