Hi Grahame. Have you had a chance to look around the forum here? There are some interesting posts that may help your game.

I recommend that you read online poker articles written by Professionals like Chris Ferguson, Phil Helmuth, Daniel Negreanu, etc.

I also recommend that you read a few poker books by authors like Dan Harrington and David Sklansky. There is also a good book entitled, "The Full Tilt Poker Strategy Guide."

Getting tips from the pros has helped most people I know that play poker, including myself.

    Best of Luck!

Lynda's advice is tops. The forum is packed full of top articles on strategy (you'll find those here) and full of great posters. Stick around you're sure to see/hear something that improves your game. The biggest assest in playing well is YOU. Assess what you want from poker and read some articles, develop a strategy that suits you...one size doesn't fit all.

If there is a pattern in what you've seen so far let us know what is it is. Loosing could be for any number of reasons. We'll be glad to give you some pointers if that would help.

Most of all though to win....

    Default Play less hands

Chances are, if you are new to poker you are playing too many hands. Although this may pay off from time to time, in the long run you will lose. Waiting for good cards is probly the hardest part of poker, and I am still struggling with it. There is a lot of info on the net as far stategy for starting hands. I would start off with becoming familiart with good starting hands then work on your strategy from there.

Steady on Lynda, you'll have me believing that soon.

The title 'Royalty' is reserved for such people that can't think or act for themselves.

Boredom is an excuse created by a weak mind.

I think when you are first starting out freerolls are great. This why you can learn how online poker works while only investing your time. But if you have the extra cash than I do not see any harm in depositing. Just choose a reputable site and play the smaller limits until you become winning player.

I wouldn't play if you are scared to loose I did that and when you play like that you definitely loose. Play limits you can afford that way you can play your game with confidence.

I've found that playing low buy-in beginner "sit and go" tournaments are the best way to build a bank roll. I started out with $20 in an account and have slowly built up. The best part about the tournaments that I play in are that the payouts long, meaning the top 5 (out of 10) seats pay and the top 4 profit. So say my buy-in is $2.00 + $0.20 and 4th place pays $3. I'm $0.80 ahead of where I started and have say 35-45 minutes of practice/experience. I also follow my own personal rule of only buying in with 10% of my bankroll at a time, so these tables are perfect for me.

    Good Luck!
