Default Jamie Gold WSOP winner & Bodog

    hi all

As you probably know the winner of the WSOP World Series of Poker 2006 was Jamie Gold

He qualified online as part of Team Bodog and went on to win the main event netting $12 million in prize money - not back for an online qualifier

he has now signed up with Bodog Poker for a two year deal to represent them.

he was branded up with Bodog gear throughout the WSOP, and got into the main event by being part of Team Bodog

Gold will be representing Bodog at live poker tournaments & events all over the world.

The only reason I was curious was that if he had previously won WSOP bracelets then it may do a little bit to help with the 'crapshoot' poker reputation that the main event has got. If he has other bracelets then he must a top player

    Default Gold dropped from BoDog?

I read somewhere that BoDog dropped him due to the bad publicity. Is this true.

    Default Bodog & Jamie Gold

    hi

I think Bodog dropped Jamie Gold a while ago while the case was still up in the air and the courts had frozen half his winnings

I dont think Gold has ended up being the great advert for poker that previous WSOP winners have proved.

The case was recently settled for an undisclosed sum.

    cheers Scrawnybob

Give Jamie a break, he is a great character, and will be good for the game, just watch he will still be here in a decade.

As for the past year, like he said when he was playing for the 2006 title and in his victory speech that year, he was playing to help pay for his fathers care, his Dad was dying before he entered that WSOP, and he continued to get worse and eventually died. Following that in the same year his mother had a cancer scare and had to have surgery. It's been a tough year in the Gold family, I hope when you go through a tough year in yours someone isn't standing on the sidelines criticizing you for being with them.

So he was not on the road promoting Poker and all that, who cares, he was at home with his family in a time of dire need where he should have been.

Honestly I have no doubt most of the pros would say he did the right thing. You would never hear Hellmuth and some of the other pros put him down for being with family.

The lawsuit thing from my understanding was another perceived misunderstanding. Ok, so I win $10mil which I say I will split with someone else. So do I give them $5mil and then pay there other $5mil to the IRS in taxes?? or do I split the cash with them after taxes?? What would you do?? walk away with nothing after winning???

I like Jamie, he is a lot of fun at the table, he is never mean to people, he has just the right amount of cocky without being a total prick. I hope he can win another bracelet and put some of his nay sayer's to rest - then again how many bracelets do his nay sayer's have???

Finally it's not like Jamie is going around calling himself the best poker player in the world, he admits he got lucky. As Jamie has said on countless occasions about himself, "I hope to be a good poker player in 10 years".

    Cheers!
