Bodog to Phase Out Poker Data Mining

As part of the ongoing process to bring the fun back into playing poker and being more attractive to the leisure player, Bodog's poker product is implementing a series of blocking systems to stop the likes of Poker Site Scout, PokerDB and Shark Scope from garnering information that (once again) mainly serve professional players.

Patrik Selin (CEO of Bodog Europe, an online gaming and entertainment portal)
explains:

These poker operator information portals are another example of how online poker is assisting in its own demise. I have commented previously on how the operators are doing this to themselves with hand histories, HUDs and rake back, all of which we will be cutting out. The next tier in the process is the operator information sites. Nobody who is playing poker for fun visits these sites, or, probably even knows they exist. They primarily exist to serve the needs of the professional players and therefore we will be implementing online protection against these sites to further aid the crucial leisure poker player.

Bodog have also recently released a new lobby with a much more user-friendly interface making navigation easier, again keeping the player new to the game or playing for fun, firmly at the forefront of everything they do.

No problem with this at all since they shouldnt be allowed anyways, If I were a big money player, some dude is gonna have to look up my frequencies to know how to play me, go back to my original question - how many software programs do you need to make you think your a great poker player, HAd some dude sweat me but he had the frequenncies of everyone at the tables running so of course it sounded like it knew what he was talking bout, if you cant bring to it to a live table, please dont make put yourself so high up playing online with 100 different programs running

I'd commented on this on an industry site too - its definately good news and also indicative of the stance at Bodog which has had for a while

I hope more sites get tough on data mining etc as I've said before it really is an advantage too far that most players dont use but a useful tool for multitable grinders

There are alot of things (like rakeback) that players think are good to have but that are long term negatives on the poker ecosystem - some sites are finally waking up to this - others are not and still have their heads buried in the sand

its worth remembering that 90% of poker players are net losing or breakeven players - the existance of datamining, HH analysis and rakeback isnt really doing them much good even if they think they need it - its a certainty that its the big players raking and cashing out massive amounts that benefit (too much) ...

nothing wrong with winners but if your going to plough money and resources back into the system its far better invested lower down the food chain with the 90% of rec players benefiting than maybe with the top 4-5%

sites where dataming doesnt work (and/or where rakeback isnt allowed) is a huge huge huge positive effect of maintaining a high fish quota where winning players still win and profit and most importantly marginally winning players will win and benefit more while still keeping the fish happy

dataming and rakeback IMHO have done alot to negatively affect the balance of things - its that classic you can shear a sheep each year but you can only skin it once ...

there are too many sites and too many players who dont want to see that too much help to winners / "savvy" players can actually lead to the downfall and loss of exactly what attracted winning players to a site in the first place

I firmly predict several sites will phase out allowed rakeback completely having found its NOT a good idea and return to a logical system where they incentivize player groups in a much better way (I know this is definately going to happen at a couple of sites) and I think more and more will follow -

its not sustainable on alot of fronts and poker rooms do not make the kind of money players think they do anymore as they are all busy gouging each other for market share they've lost sight of needing to make proper profits and attract new players and maintain a sustainable and happy poker room.

Have to say i think these ideas are awesome sauce, the pro's don't need any more help and i am one of those leisure players ( fish ) that doesn't bother with all that crap and don't feel like all my stats should be made electronically open to anyone else.Hell if they want to know my stats then they should rail me

Good for bodog. If you can't bring it live, you shouldn't be able to bring it online.

I download Bodog again and really like the new lobby.
