how can the doj shut down a site that isn't based in america?

How are these reports that I have been hearing and reading the Bodog may close? Some factions in DOJ are bent in shutting down the online poker/gaming site.

So how come they have the guts to do this if they are closing?

I think Cashew has managed to get a couple of things confused - easy done in the current climate

Bodog IS currently open to US players and IS currently taking new US players

however where the confusion has arrisen is because they have stopped taking referals from affiliate sites that are solely focussed on aquiring US signups for them

basically they VERY SENSIBLY want to maintain a their more diverse player base and not just add a ton of new US players - so they have told certain affiliates not to promote them or not to focus on US player aquisition

this at the time lead to a few inexperienced affiliates to think this meant they were now closed to US players or to new US signups - they are open to both

hope that is a help

on the issue of the DoJ in theory they could be buiding a case for seizing other sites but to be honest it took 4 years for them to take down Stars / Tilt / Absolute

they could seize the domains because they were .com's and the office for admin on those is in US and they just fold to any request from the DoJ

however Bodog and others are now running on .eu's or other domains and also most crucially I dont think any of the other sites have been involved in buying parts of failing US bank to process deposits etc

so the risks are lower in that sense

personally if I was a US player looking for a site I would be most confident in Bodog and then Carbon and that would be it at the moment (maybe some of the other Merge skins but why not play safer with Carbon or Bodog IMHO)
