Often its easy to make a deal if there is two players "live" and the rest is ghosts.
Besides, it gives you a great boost, when I play in these dead money competitions I finish in the money almost every time. So I dont see the point in getting too mad by the dead players.
The freeroll sit-outs happen on all poker sites that I play on.
It can be advantageous or frustrating, depending on the situation.
Being the only one actively playing at a table in the beginning is a great way to build a stack early on.
Having one or two other people actively playing at a table of sit-outs usually means serious aggression will be in play with re-raising and all-ins. This will happen especially when some players show up after sitting out for part of the tournament.
From my experiences.Bodog is definitly the only site that this happens.I understand your frustration.Nothing worse then 7 sitouts at a table of nine players.
Now that i think a little more there are a few sites that this crap happens on.But theres nothing you can do.Only solution would be to just stop playing that $500.00 Freeroll.
lol definitly the only site?? i guess you dont play anywhere else then... it happens EVERYWHERE.. some sites deal with it better than others and yes, the registration opening 2 hours before the tourney starts plays a part in it too.. it doesnt really bother me on bodog though, they deal with it pretty well and once they're actually on SIT OUT, it goes pretty smoothly
I once played in a freeroll on PokerStars and got seated at a table where the other 8 players were sitting out. Needless to say, I went from 1500 to 13000 really easily. Annoying though.
The only thing that I can say to this is that the higher the buy-in the less it happens, something to bear on mind on Bodog, I play the $500 guaranteed on a regular basis. I know that the autofolders are going to be there and I just deal with it. If I don't want to deal with it then I know to go to another tournament with a higher buy-in. I will say that autofolders can help stake your chip stack for later in the tournament. maybe that is what you should do, is try looking at it from a new perspective. Good luck.
sitters are great they teach you to pay attention to whats going on, they will also get you used to raising people with short stacks or who are very weak. if you have a bounch of em turn on the tv and relax for the first hour, plus you get a mountain of chips
yea i dont like it when you get alot of sit outs but you do get a good stack from it. but i would rather them getting kicked out after the first level like at other sites
Sometimes I am one of those ghosts...I'll sign up sometimes way before and not get back on the computer until 15-20mins after it begins. But sometimes that works out well, especially in those $500 freerolls with 3-4 thousand people, because the all-in-no-matter-what-hand donks have been weeded out or have calmed down so I don't get caught up in their shenanigans.
Hey chip, I too find myself sitting out the first 15 to 45 min. It will barely be noticable to your stack, plus like you say, the All-iners are either gone or have stacks worth protecting.
see ya at the tables
