Thread: Chris Ferguson Challenge

  1. #1

    Default Chris Ferguson Challenge

You probably read about Chris Ferguson, who is trying to turn $0 into a $10,000 bankroll, with no money to start with. "I had no choice but to start out playing Freerolls. Starting out, I'd often manage to win a dollar or two, but I'd quickly get busted and have to start over again. It took some time but, after awhile, I was eventually able to graduate to games that required an actual buy-in."

I'm wondering which free-rolls he's talking about, cause the only free-rolls I'm seeing are satellites

Click the "Tournaments" tab. Then, click the "All" tab. Finally scroll down to where it says "$100 freeroll". Check out the FullTilt freeroll schedule I posted on this forum. I posted it in this section of the message boards. If you have any questions, simply send me a Private Message.

oh yeah, thanks for the schedule

    Default Nothing into something

Due to my current financial restraints I am attempting the same feat as Ferguson.

However, there are two problems which keep arising.

There are only a limited number of tournaments, often times during hours when I am unavailable.

Second, because of the Freeroll nature, players are frustratingly loose.. especially early on.

Nevertheless, I've built up a marginal bank role thus far and will continue my efforts into the future.

Well, you are in luck because 4King happens to have a freeroll on FullTilt this week!! I can't wait! --
I've also heard recently that Ferguson already made the $10,000. - I'll see if I can find an article about it somewhere.

Default chris jesus ferguson makes 10,000 bankroll from zero

    hi

yep I mentioned this in my blog - http://www.4kingpokerblog.com a while ago when he was part way through the project

I'll be doing a round-up news piece on Monday as Ferguson has now made $10,000 from zero

There are alot of lessons we could all learn from his bankroll management - me included

For those of you who bust your bankroll regularly and reload / redeposit much more than you should be needing to - its really worth checking his approach out -

just found my original post about it in the blog - Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Lessons from Chris Ferguson on Bankroll Management

I think it took him 6 or 7 months to get up to a grand total of $6 - Personally I think its better to just deposit even the minimum deposit and get on playing for real money - but play the absolute lowest stakes until like Chris Ferguson you have got enough of a bankroll to move up.

    cheers scrawnybob

ps. As general advice if you freerolling - I would suggest signing up to more sites (via our reviews ;-) see our full list of poker rooms -

after all as a freeroller its free (put bonus codes in anyway as you may want to deposit at a later stage) - the more sites you have open to you the easier it is to find games that work with your schedule

pps. This is one of the reasons freerollers go all-in more in the early stages - they have registered for several at different sites and want to double up quick or bust out and move on - this is actually probably a more effective use of you time as freerolls are a very time intensive way to make a few bucks

I'm trying to accomplish the same feat as Chris Ferguson, but not because I want the challenge. Instead, I don't want to deposit on poker sites. So I am steadily building up my bankroll on FullTilt and/or PokerStars. At this point, I have 39 cents on FullTilt and 4 cents on PokerStars. I'm not having success right now, but I am certain that I will have my bankroll up to $1,000 by the year 2009.

I have the same problem about the freerolls. There are so many during the day when I am at work!!! I started out with $50.00 and I am already almost out of money...lol. That is why I am playing more freerolls now. I know it will be harder playing against 2700 people compared to 180 or so.

    Red face Freeroll Frenzy

The main trick in building your bankroll with freerolls, is to make sure you get into as many of them as possible. That also means that you need to get into as many sites as possible. The main problem then, becomes how do you keep track of which sites and which freerolls are coming up. Being from the US makes that a little bit of a challenge since the Legal Issues of Online Gaming have come up. But there are still plenty of sites that take US Players. You need to get access to Full Tilt, Poker Stars, Absolute Poker, Big Juicy Odds, BoDog, BubbaPoker, BugsysClub, Cake, CarbonPoker, G2GPoker, JunglePoker, PatherPoker, PokerNordica, Royal Vegas Poker, Ultimate Bet, just to name a few. Then look at their sites for the schedules and make a chart that lists each site and at what times each freeroll hapens and make sure you write down the Time that they REGISTER. Some games will fill in in seconds and you have to be ready to regsiter when they do. Also, Join as many forums as possible so that you can be part of their freerolls. Many forums have $50, $100, $200 and $350 weekly freerolls but you have to participate in the forums to get the passwords. Having said all this I do want to mention a software tool that I have written called 'MyPokerRegistery' - You simply put in the list of sites and freerolls that you want to be in each week and it will remind you when you need to register and play. You can do it the hard way or you can do it the MyPokerRegistry way.... If you want more information about MyPokerRegistry then you can send me a Personal Message - or follow the link below:
