Default 100$ freeroll - 5 hours for what??

Hi all,
i came to a conclusion that you have to spend 5 hours at minimum, just to get to their payplace, which is 27th place. if you're willing to go all the way, and actually play in the final table, then it's 6 concentrated hours infront of the screen.
anyway i got 2 bucks for finishing 15 yesterday.
I tell you - it was a marathon!

Default freerolls - marathon commitment

hiya

yep this is pretty much my conclusion of the merits of playing freerolls over an extended period

ie. the hours involved / amount won = a very low hourly rate

and this is assuming that at the end of a 5hr marathon (a great achievement BTW) you cash

when you then factor in the variance of having to play several MTT over time (like freerolls) to cash in one of them - your actual hours worked / played to make a few dollars or cents ...

is huge

I still maintain (possibly an unpopular view) that past trying out a site to see if you like it playing freerolls long term is not a great strategy

My personal approach / suggestion to any freeroll players after a while would be to either -

deposit using money save by not going down the pub for a night or two

deposit using money saved by doing a few extra hours overtime that month

but I appreciate this is only my personal view and others definately disagree and seem to find freerolling profitable and time well spent

at the end of the day enjoying the game of poker is an important factor for all of us ;-)

cheers scrawnybob

hi
thanks for the tips. of course i respect your personal view - because, without no doubt, to me this is the right view.
i also think that you cant be a "part time", or an "amateur", playing so many hours - just for fun.
the 15th place was more for the research, as it seems that many our members play in that freeroll.
btw, in yesterdays freeroll (not on FTP) i finished 3rd and got 47$ for that

Default playing poker shoud definately still be fun

hi Jacks

yep I think it is still really important to enjoy playing poker

maybe saying having fun is not the right word - enjoy is better

for most of us playing isnt about grinding out a hourly profit 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week it IS about enjoyment

and that feeling that your getting better at your hobby / recreation - that I think is why we love poker its the challenge

the challenge just happens to be measured in money

dont get me wrong - if freerolls work for people then the sense of achievement is great getting through so many players - and respect for that

as our moto says our aim for helping players is so they -

Don't Get Bitter - Get Better

which is about enjoying poker generally by making the game less frustrating by getting better

cheers scrawnybob

I finished 4th in the German freeroll some days ago and got 7$ for about 5 1/2 hours playing. Maybe not the highest per hour ratio, but I think it's ok. Certainly better than playing 4 hours and finish just ouside the money.

When you first start then playing for enjoyment is the most important.

Obviosly some games can last ages and you win a few cents but as long as you enjoy it while you are playing the money is a bonus.

any time you make it to the money, it's a good thing. I like to play freerolls when I don't want to feel the pressure of having invested my money. Some days I have more time than money!! LOL

I've gotten over 100k chips before in a freeroll and just sat out and went to sleep. Woke up the next morning to find $2 in my account. Ive done that 3-4x now. If I feel like playing for 4 hours then I go for the win. Ive won 3 of these freerolls and placed 2nd in another.........Very time consuming.........
