    Question The Current Recession Onslaught

Just curious on how the current recession has affected your job, your business, your life in general.
The company i work for "Oak Harbor Freight Lines" has been in business for almost a 100yrs, is based out of Auburn Washington, and some of the terminals in Oregon & Washington our unionized which has just settled a 1 1/2 year long strike, although the terminal i work at is not under a union, it has been affected by the strike and the recession both. Two years ago i was making well over $30,000 a year. Now after having survived a massive layoff & my hours cut and enduring my salary reduced by a company wide 10% cut in pay i have lost in wages about $12,000 a year. I hope and pray that the economy picks up and the recession improves.

I know where you are coming from Derringer! I have been a semi mechanic for 12 year and never would have thought I would ever get laid off I got laid off for 5 months from a West Michigan trucking company last year. I can only pray that the trucking industry picks up soon

It's hitting everywhere, I was head hunted by a competitor last year and it seemed like a better prospect than the job I was in. Unfortunately, 6 months later in January because of the recession I wasn't making enough sales ( although I was top salesman ) and they made me redundant. I've been applying for jobs since but I don't even get an interview. Not good times

i was just laid off back in Dec. about 3 weeks before Christmas. i also live in Michigan, and with the Auto Industry the way it is, things are pretty bad here.

i worked for for a titanium coating company for 10 years. i was planing on retiring from there in about 15 years.

thank God the wife is still working, because finding a jod is hard. on the bright side i have more time to play poker.
