    Hi winn,

It's not as easy to get one going as you may think, presumming you have sorted out any local legal issues, I think the best place to start is picking the type of cards and sort a lap top out and some sort of software to run the torunament clock.

There are a lot of poker clocks out there I recommend "Poker Room Manager"

This should also sort out the prize Stucture, There are cheeper software packages some where on the web.

The next thing ( I like to do this) is sort some sort of refreshments and some food for the players and the railbirds ( important you provide enough for both)

You also have to type and print a copy of "The Tournament" rules of the web
I was going to write some and give them to Bob so 4kingmembers can quickly print them of this web site, sorry I just have not got around to it yet.

Every person that plays should have a hard copy of the rules.

    so to precis:

    1/ Timer
    2/Rules
    3/Food and Drink.

I think depending on time the most popular tournament is $25 deep stack tourny 9k in chips ( any more chips you will be playing all night.

Also I think a "Mixed" game gets the night going a little better, I suggest a round of holdem and a round of 4 card Omaha.

Dont let any one get pissed!
Dont let any one set the Agenda Your tourny your the BOSS!
Dont YOU play and dont trust any one bar YOU or your Wife with the money if you are playing for money ( see local legal issues)

If you need any more help holla in this thread I see what I can do to answer.

    Good Luck

    Regards

    Gypsy

When I first saw this post, I thought it would be about corporate sponsorship of poker tournaments--an idea TJ Cloutier has promoted for years. He says what prevents it from happening is the childish behavior of some of the top poker players. Who would want to subject themselves to that, in person no less? The behavior of some pros may make for better television but it may in the end cost the sport money because of the lack of corporate sponsorship. Where would golf be without corporate sponsorship?
