Volunteer Work
Hi all, What volunteer work do you do???
I like volunteering as much as the next guy. I know when I worked full time and was raising four daughters, about the only volunteer work I got in was donating blood.
Last week I was able to volunteer to read a story, called Green Eyes, at a preschool class, I already went to the library this week and picked up two more books in case all the parents are too busy to volunteer, I can just do what I enjoy doing. I used to make up stories out of thin air years ago for the morning breakfasts at school when I'd walk my daughter to school. The kindergarten teacher overheard me telling stories in the lunchroom and asked me to tell her classroom the story. I think I got the idea of storytelling because I heard some of Hans Christian Anderson's stories would of never had been written had he not had to make money to pay for child support. The world is blessed if this is true. His stories are interesting whatever century it is.
We all have a talent that we can share with another...

Wonderful you contribute to the Scouts, Noble..
Today I volunteered 2 and a half hours at a senior citizen center. I also had my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson with. The nurse had us help get some bingo games going. I called the numbers while my daughter watched one table and my son-in-law watched another table and a nurse watched a third table to help with patients with their cards. They winners had their choice of a candy bar or a hand sized stuffed animal.
The fun part of the day was when my preschooler grandson was throwing a ball to the patients. It was twice the size of a basketball. The senior citizens loved playing catch with a child.
I am 49 years old and it was challenging to see the people that will be in my peer group in 20 years. I marveled at how many residents admired this one patient who was able to walk, as most were confined to wheelchairs. When I got home, I had me a few shots of alcohol. The only time I do this is when I am headed to a dentist's office.
I guess I do not regret nothing in my life. I guess it would bite the day I lose my ability to walk. That would be hard for me to accept and deal with.

volunteering
the last week of every month my mom, myself and our next door neighbor insert monthly flyers and deliver 800 senior newspapers to our community area. we have done this for over a year now. what i would really like to start doing is helping out at the humane society a little bit. i thought about volunteering at our local walk in clinic but i really don't want to be exposed to sick people even though my expertise is in this area. i aways make myself available to my older neighbors.
