    Default Any MMORPG'rs here?

I noticed a thread in which ND1991 states
Never sit down and play "for something to do". If I am not in the mood to think and focus on playing well and winning, then load up an MMORPG or Hearts or something else.
Struck me as interesting as I'm considering giving a MMORPG a try again. I've been doing a little research on them as I used to be an Everquest player (many years ago). Had alot of fun but it looks like the server populations are taking a hammering on that version.
Was looking into EQ II and the graphics look good, was thinking of giving it a go but then I found a thread that EQ Next has been announced (no release date that I could find) maybe I should hold off as there is a good chance alot of people from EQ II will move to "Next" and the server populations will dwindle on that game too.
Never played WoW or any other but if anybody playing other games I'd be interested in your opinions and by that I mean which is the best MMORPG and not your opinions on the dorks like me that play them!!!!

Personally I prefer Turn Based Strategy.

I've tried a few of those but I find you can't beat the social interaction of a good MMORPG. For the most part I found the individuals on EQ to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic but that being said the main objective was to have a good laugh. You could always find a good group though and if you didn't feel like fighting a bunch of pixels you could always find something else to do, even if it were only to sit in a newbie zone throwing away free buffs.

I started playing video games in general with my kids when they were little. Super Nintendo then.. lol. Super Mario and stuff like that. As they got older, I discoved that I loved the RPG games like Final Fantasy. I played all of those and others like Dragon Quest, Star Ocean....

When my illness became a problem 6-7 years ago and I couldn't do my daily job anymore, my mind was going crazy so I decided to check out Runescape. At the time, that was one of the biggies and it's browser-based so I could play it on dial-up without much problem. I really liked it a lot and even paid to play it once I'd finished most of the free quests and such. I still like that game, but haven't played for a couple of years.

I moved on to WoW and really like that too. I don't play any MMORPG's right now, but I'd be interested in something new too. I've kinda become a Facebook game addict at the moment..lol. A lot of those FB games have you building levels and things, something I like in the RPG games, so that's probably why I play them.

Also, I can put a FB game up in one window and a poker game up in another and am able to play both at the same time. It keeps me from playing too many hands and since the FB games don't have any "live" action type stuff, it's not a problem if it sits idle while I'm in a hand or two.

Outstanding ND1991, I am so glad I posted this question here instead of the EQ forums!!!

Ok, I had the Evercrack addiction way back when, played on Vazaelle, quit not long after SoL came out. I loved the variety of things to do on EQ, spent more time on tradeskills and alts than anything else, mastered all tradeskills, enjoyed doing it. Loved the guilds, grouping, pretty much the whole gameplay set up.
The graphics were a bit of a letdown for me so I was thinking of trying EQ2 which was just being released, then I found out the system requirements My dinosaur of a computer couldn't handle it and most of the gamers were flaming EQ2 at the time so I figured it wasn't worth it.

Now sometime soon, as fast as I can, I'm going to sneak a new Dell into the house (would be grateful for any advice on upgrades as far as graphic cards) Looking to spend about $1k. Dell and only Dell for me can't be swayed on that I love Dell.

Was searching the game forums and it would appear that EQ is struggling with server populations so I'm assuming it's only hardcore players and less "recreational" players on that game. EQ2 seemed to have healthy server populations so I'm guessing a better chance of new servers where we can all start as total noobs and have a good laugh (like I did on Vazaelle).

I've seen WoW and the graphics looked good but I have no idea about the gameplay as far as the variety goes ie. tradeskills and pretty much anything that you can do if you're not in the mood for killing.
I'm definitely more of a Dungeons and Dragons player, v enviroment, not pvp.

Hey xxmommaxx, big FF fan here, got me through my Evercrack addiction, 7, 8, X, X-2, XII. One day I'll get that PS3 and play XIII but I still need to finish XII, keep losing interest after about 120hrs and starting over

    Limey,

Ok here would be my recommendations.

Lord of the Rings Online (Lifetime subscription for $299.00). You cannot beat adventuring in Middle Earth. Good for soloing, good for small groups, end game raids are never more than 12 people, interesting twist on PvP but you do not need to do it. I say the lifetime membership because this game has some legs, and if you want something semi-casual for the next two or three years, you get your money's worth. You can also go monthly for $14.99 I think. Also do not forget to try the free trial.

Dungeons and Dragons Online. If you like D&D, then this may be the best choice for you. Also, price is hard to beat. Free to download, free to play. You can then buy from the store additional content (I consider them like modules). I do not personally like the game play as well as LotRo, but they are from the same studios.

Guild Wars. This is the way to go if you ultimately want to do PvP. However, I found the PvE quite interesting and depth for another free game. Buy the software and play the game. Also nice because you can grab NPCs to fill in your party.

WoW. Hard to beat the population. Fun game. I found the high end content repetive when I played but it might be better now.

Feel free to PM me if you want more info. And if you try LotRo, let me know so you can get on my server. Never hurts to know someone.
