Glad I looked further, I almost missed this thread. I thought it was a brilliant film, kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Not sure where you thought the holes were but I'll agree on the ending. I bought it on DVD and when I watched it I thought I'd been ripped off and the end of the movie had been cut out. I was a mite disappointed but then my buddies that watched it told me "No, that's the ending"
Did a little research and the movie was directed by the Coen brothers and they stated that they wanted to keep as close to the novel as possible. I guess that's how the book ended too.
The Coen brothers have a new movie coming out. I remember hearing about it and I remember thinking I can't wait for it to come out but, I don't remember the name of it or what it's about. That kind of thing happens more and more as you get older.

Cheers for reply limey i started to give up hope.....gold bless u

Holes - what was nutjobs (cant recall name) involvement in regards to the money?
who were the 2 men he killed who i assume was trying to recover the money as they had the tracker i can only see they were also working for the same guy who took woody harrelson on.....if so did they not realise who Nutjob was again unless i missed something it was not made clear.
who killed moss as u never seen him get killed and nutjob wouldnt of known where he was unless he randomy found him altho if they showed it it would of helped

What was the point of the car accident at the end?
What was the message we were been sent in regards to Tommy Lees Character?? if ur coppers lazy dont expect a good result.

I feel as tho the film was intriguing and i loved nutjob as a character but i was only intrigued to see where the film was going to me it went no where.

i would go play poker im taking a few weeks off.

as for does it need to make sense....Ya damn right it does i dont want some millionaire passing off story lines that appear deeper than they are when in reality they dont make sense. I have no issue with a far fetched film but when the movie fundamentally makes no sense i feel robbed. Although mayb i am jumping the gun and missed the plot myself

If i want to think i will do a crossword or watch countdown hell sometimes i will even read one of dan abnormals post : ) if i want to relax i watch a film and personally...each to there own n all that......i like a good ending....hell i will even setlle for A ending but hey i am fussy like that

    ok, get ya

but some film makers like to make people think...and some of the scripts they are given are with no definitive ending so they leave it up to the reader/viewer to interpret (think about personally and as to how they would react, what they would do...what it all means, even) often according to their own experience in life...

i know, i used to like a happy or definitive ending, but the older i have become, the more i know there is none...

Ok, this took a while, just watched it and did a lot of rewinding.
    The nutjobs name is Anton.

Anton was hired by the same guy that hired the Mexicans and later in the movie hires Woody Harrelson’s character.

The two guys Anton kills at the beginning of the movie that take him to the scene of the drug deal gone bad die because they are witnesses to Anton’s involvement.

There are three Mexican guys that die in the motel scene where Moss hid the money in the air duct. Anton asks the last one (in the shower) "How did you find that" and the Mexican replies "I know nothing" before Anton pulls the shower curtain across and kills him. He put two and two together and figured the guy that hired him had also given the Mexicans a receiver. This is why he kills the guy in the office.
Then Anton uses a dime to unscrew the vent cover looking for the money which Moss pulled from the other room. My question would be why didn’t Moss dump the briefcase if he was so suspicious as to rent an adjoining room, I guess it just made for a better story.

Remember the scene where he walks into the office and shoots the guy behind the desk. He says "He gave them a receiver" The accountant says "he figured, the more men the better chance of completing the job" (or something like). Anton replies "You pick the one right tool". I guess he felt betrayed that he hadn’t been trusted to complete the job.
Then the accountant asks "Are you going to shoot me?" and Anton replies smiling "That depends, do you see me?"
I think it’s safe to assume the accountant didn’t make it. Anton leaves no witnesses.
It’s because of this statement that I believe the old guy in the store (the coin flip situation) and Moss’s wife don’t make it either.

Much debate over who killed Moss. I’m not sure who killed Moss but I think Anton got the money, and here’s why.The Mexicans know that Moss is in the Desert Sands Motel in El Paso because the Mother in Law tells them.
Anton only knows/suspects that Moss is headed for the nearest Airport in West Tx. near Odessa and the Mexican border. He had a phone conversation with Moss while Moss was in the Mexican hospital when he threatens to kill Moss’s wife if he doesn’t hand over the money. So my theory is he put two and two together figuring Moss would give his wife the money and put her on a plane which is what he was attempting to do.
There’s a scene with a guy and an old truck loaded up with chickens, Anton asks him where the nearest airport is (El Paso) before he tells him to unload the chickens, steals his truck and fair to say kills him too. Anton is a smart cookie as well as a psycho.
Now Anton heads for El Paso but the only way for him to find Moss is using the receiver. We know that Anton was at the motel because in the scene where Sheriff Bell is sitting on the bed he looks down and sees the vent cover unscrewed and a dime (screwdriver) next to it (the same as the three Mexicans in the motel).
My theory is the Mexicans killed Moss though because you see them running away and it my opinion that Anton would of killed them too if he shot Moss.

Car wreck scene, it has to be pure speculation, loads of theories all deep and meaningful. I offer this. He kills Moss’s wife because he gave his word (the phone scene/Mexican hospital)
After the wreck the two boys find him all beat up and he pays one of them for a shirt and walks away. My take on this is that Anton went into immediate retirement after killing Moss’s wife because he has the money. This is the first time in the movie where somebody sees Anton and we can honestly say for sure that he doesn’t kill them.

Tommy Lee's character. I went to the bonus features on the DVD and got this from the Coen brothers and Tommy Lee. The sheriff is the main character in the movie. The movie is about the new crimes popping up and the sheriffs inability to cope with them which in turn gives him the opportunity to reflect on the past and how things have changed with the passage of time. Hence the title "No Country for Old Men".

I know this is lengthy and confusing but so is the movie, I hope it’s of some help.

Thanks again Limey this has made the film somewhat clearer

But the same guys hires 3 different people who are obviously going to cross paths to collect 1 item i missed the bit where this guy clearly had some form of brain defect......he seemed ok to me.

and i see tommy lee as the ageing guy who prob didnt feel he was upto the changing crime and criminals as he was also stating at the start of the film how crime used to be minimal BUT this is a complete sub-plot to the story line and to name the film in regards to this is strange. It would be like Chief martin Brody in jaws ignores an ice cream van at the start and is asked midway into the film do want an icecream to which he replies "NO" then after defaeting jaws is handed an icecream from a grateful child which he the licks looks at the child, smiles and says "u know what kid i do like icecream" as a result the film we know as jaws should of been called "HEY I DO LIKE ICECREAM"

I may watch again at some point to be fair though im a bit of a simpleton so might just stick to die hard 1....so simple yet so brilliant.

Ok, I'm not very good at explaining things. The guy hires Anton.
Anton kills the two guys that take him to the scene of the drug deal gone bad. Anton leaves no witnesses. Those two guys worked for the guy that hired Anton.
So the guy that hires Anton now hires the Mexicans, he has no contact with Anton, therefore no idea what Anton is up to.
When Anton kills the three Mexicans in the motel then they guy hires Woody Harrelson and they have a discussion about Anton being a nutjob. Woody's character (Carson Wells) is supposed to get the money and deal with Anton.
Carson Wells doesn't get the job done because Anton is one mean Billy bad a$$.
