We had a huge scandal released in our Canadian papers recently. We have a lifer who killed 11 children aged 11-19 in British Columbia. Now obviously he will never be released from prison. He has no family or living relatives. Yet the newspapers discovered he has been receiving $1,600 a month paid to his account in old age security pensions. Well naturally there was a Public outcry and they want the Law changed so Prison inmates serving life sentences can no longer receive and Government payouts.

So the money just buids up in a bank account and nobody gets it???
I guess he can't spend it prison.
So it should be distriubuted to his victims relatives in my opinion.
Or knowing the way governments work it will probably revert to the state......wrong!
HAve ya'll heard of TEXAS, Even though the state is obsolete and its senate folks think that the US is shaking down BP, but they dont play when it comes to fire up the electric chair or lethal injections. DONT WANNA COMMITT NO BIG CRIMES IN TEXAS, YOU WILL BE dead and dead pretty quick
No you have a Prison Bank Account and once a week you can buy treats like chocolate bars and other candy/treats (used to have to buy your cigs when you could smoke) from the GIFT shop menu weekly.Remember Lindsay Lohan recently arrived day after weekly order list so she missed out on her chance to buy bottled water and the red licorice that she enjoyed the following week.USA and Canada kind of operate the same in that regard.
Anyways I see many people save money while in prison. They collect Un-Employment Insurance and can,t spend that much.Gov,t agencies don,t cross reference to see there in jail.
Anyways The lifer has his money and can write a will to anyone or a charity.I agree it would be logical but probably little comfort to give it to the families of the victims. !!
I feel i Hi-Jacked this thread from Washerwoman and i don,t know what Tesco,s means. ?? Are you not British Washerwoman.? I agree with washerwoman Dan in the sense that you could be in the wrong place at the wong time and be convicted of murder especially in a country like Mexico for instance. But even Texas has executed many an innocent person.DNA has now proven so many Death Row inmates innocent after they have been sentenced to death. !!
But when you do have 100% no doubt killers(serial killers serving 7 life sentences for example) with DNA/witnesses and a confession I don,t see why the Gov,t should keep them alive. The cost to the tax payer per prisoner is ridiculously high.So I guess I would support the Death Penalty just for cost savings and creating more space in the prisons.Lets face it Charles Mansion is about 70 yrs old now and he will never see the outside. How much has he Cost the state for the last 30 or so yrs to house him in Protective Custody, feed him, cloth him and supply the tooth paste, etc and health care that some of the poor bums with phsycotic problems on the street don,t even have access to the same luxeries.

That's fine, RG, you hijack away...that's why i started the thread so people could actually have a discussion...it could even be linked to whether the death penalty is obsolete or not...that one always brings up a lively debate...
Tesco's is a massive supermarket chain in UK (and has spread like wildfire round the rest of the world).
