    Hi all,
BP oil rig in us territory......does this not then get regulated under US laws??? if so does the buck not ultimatly stop with the us??

The fact that this is not an american company does not mean thet there hands are clean BP should be acting within the rules set by us government if they was not action should have been taken before this disaster has struck. Barack approach is basically saying - we are VICTIMS of BRITISH!!!!!!! petroleum who have used us as a weak and vulnerable nation for profit and have brought this disaster upon us which we have never been given any power to stop. and they mut pay.

i have never in my life reffered to bp as British petroleum and cannot recall if i even knew what BP stood for before recent events.

Dont get me wrong this is a horrible incident and is an UNBELIEVABLE amount of oil but i feel that baracks first line is to make it look as they are zero percent to blame and are making bp look like they are a 100 percent ...even if bp are majority to blame this has happened in the us....so how can the us government not be at any fault??

    Rgds

Agreed. The US allowed BP to drill in the Gulf knowing full well there are risks in all such operations. BP was leasing the well. It was actually operated by American sub-contractors. The buck stops with BP because it is the main company involved, but the US government is also culpable. It is now desperately trying to duck responsibility and heap all the blame on BP. If the US government knew any better than BP how to cap the well it should have got in there straight away to do it. But it clearly didn't. It's a nightmare situation, but the constant finger-pointing at BP isn't really helping. Obama is in trouble and he's looking for a scapegoat.

nice to see yesterday's post got some action

firstly, any major corp will deal where they get the best breaks at the cheapest level...and that includes shoddy equipment as long as they can keep the share price high

secondly, if anything goes wrong they will ignore it

thirdly...if they get exposed they will feign innocence and/or try to get someone else to clean it up

fourthly...if it gets too big and news agencies and governments become involved they will posture and waffle...a seeming "solution" to the problem will be seen to have been found

fifthly...however it comes down...the ordinary taxpayer will, in the end, foot the bill

if the us regulators weren't so busy using drugs and screwing each other this could not of happened. you don't hear about these headlines any more. they have new meat to slaughter. the execs of bp are not directly responsible for this horrible diseaster but they are the ones to pony up and deal out compensation.
