The OttawaBluesfest.ca started Tuesday July 6th for 2 weeks ending Sunday July 18th with over 300 musical acts on 5 outdoor stages !! It,s now one of the top ten Musicfests in the world I,m a volunteer and totally enjoy all the diverse musical acts from 6pm to 11pm every night.I know you wont miss me. lol But thats where i will be for the next 2 weeks.Were having a heatwave right now with daily 34C temperatures and factoring in the Humidity its like 44C till Friday and I pray it breaks.I would Dance in the rain.But the show is still going on.

I should write a BLOG. It was a very busy Thursday night at the Ottawa Bluesfest.(Blues used very lightly) lol .. Okay had the Bacon brothers(KevinBacon) and his brother who has been an accomplished musician with his own band going for 30 years now at 7pm.No delay as there are 2 main stages in major bowl area that holds 25,000 people +. 8Pm was the the Moody Blues on the alternate stage.They of course updated the band with some very accomplished musicians as well and encored with the classic "Nights in white Satin" which was from 1967 but is a timeless classic.(decent show) I then had to go to a slighty smaller back stage to see Steve hackett and some extemely talented musicians starting at 9:15pm.He was the Lead guitarist for Genesis in the days with Phil Collins and Garbriel and did most of the composing of the albums.Best show of the night imo.9:30 also had the B52,s in the major bowl but who cares imo? Well many people do obviously who came out to see the headliner like B52,s (really) but i couldn,t tear myself from the great guitar rifts of Steve Hackett and his band.You can actually walk around the edges with no difficulty to see Steve Hackett and his Awesome band within 40 feet of the stage.And these newbies who only come out to see a headliner act don,t even know the terrific music going on at the 3 back stages that start at 6:30 pm.They don,t arrive til 8:30 pm ,,,, There missing so much. !!

YOU saw STEVE HACKETT, that dude is a monster on guitar. Does he have new stuff out, play any GTR stuff or old Genesis. I didnt know he played on Phil Collins solo stuff too

The Moody Blues, You say updated band, JUstin Hayward still in right. I saw them like 20 years ago. Love the song Question and always been a big fan of the Long distance Voyager album

Depending on the setlist - a B-52's set aint that bad either, never forget their first few albums set new wave standards

If you have some time just check out the Ottawabluesfest.ca website for yourselves and beside the bands are some of there songs you can listen to and a short Bio about the group.You can choose to see the bands by day (which i do)or by Stage or by performer.You can check under Visitor Info ___ and fest site map to see how big it is and how 5 stages are set up.
ANSWERS --- Yes Justin Hayward, John lodge and Graeme Edge are still with the founding Moody Blues and a Cute young female accomplished flute player was impressive..
Hackett did play 3 Genesis songs at the end of his set.Firth of Fith and fountains of Salmacs which were Super so I heard later but like an Idiot i left there stage only to hear the closing Rock Lobster and love Shack by the B-52,s.Why do i always do that.Mistake,But there are 5 stages and music everywhere its impossible to see it all.

So Ottawa Bluesfest began as Blues in 1994 I think for only a weekend and one stage. But now its just a huge FEST with Big name bands to draw in enormous crowds like KISS last year had 35,000 people one night,,, for example..

My rundown so far,,

Tuesday -- Metal night with Dream Theatre (very good) and headliner Iron Maiden. Packed and with so many 20 yr Olds who could have never heard of Iron Maiden. A gem imo was on a back stage again at 6:30 PM. For my Euro friends who may know of Ana Popovic from Belgrade who blisters a guitar with almost the best Blues guitarists.I think so popular in Europe because plays the scorching US Blues.Hear her out.

Wednesday -- Gypsy Kings were good and a few strong local Blues bands. But i really enjoyed FURTHER with original Grateful Dead,s Phil Lesh and Bob Weir.(one is 70 yrs yound now) !! Never was a Dead Head myself but they started at 8:30 and played a great set (2 and 1/2 hrs) til closing at 11pm. Clear sound and songs like Trukkin that i didn,t even know i knew had me singin along. Infectious... and all these 60 yr hippies dancing the night away in their tye dies t-shirts made for a great atmosphere.

Thursday -- 7pm Bacon brothers. 8pm - Moody Blues. 9:15 - the best Act of the night and on a backstage for about 5,000 lucky fans was Steve Hackett. Just Terrific instrumental compositions with Guitar, keyboard and a great Saxs player slowing building up a tempo and then BOOM ,, perfectly timed lighting coincided with the sudden explosion of all the instruments hitting full out at the same time.So much better Live. And the MAIN stage had the the B-52,s at the same time at 9:30. There is no comparison in my mind but hey keep on the down low. The B-52,s were the headliner bringing in 20,000 fans who don,t know what they were missing. Oh well ... and sadly our 2 newspapers sukk in the entertainment area as they never even mentioned Steve Hackett the next day as they cover the Main stage too.

Friday -- John Butler Trio very popular in Australia performed a great set at 7pm. At 8pm Hole with Cortney Love.She was having a great time and very engaging.It was like a car race and i was waiting for a huge Crash but I couldn,t look away.Most of her singing was horrible screaming but she was entertaining.lol
OKAY ,,, The sleeper of the night again was on the small beautiful backstage right on the river front where Steve Hackett played. It was the Babe Ruth band. Great guitar work and vocals like Steve Hackett the night before and no-one knows about them?? Well i honesty wouldn,t either if i didn,t give a listen online before heading to the Festival. SUPEr show. But again there were 20,000 people up in the main Bowl listening to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Thats ok,, the money feeds the festival and i can see the much better acts without the crowds. lol

Ok ,, Saturday .. Music starts at 1pm and goes continuous til 11pm on 5 stages. So i need sleep and review all the acts so I can plan my schedule. That will be a hard days worth of drinking.... teehee
