Glad u didnt go ahead and pay them anything, especially after reading Madjek's post and seeing ur situation was the exact same thing. Its just another common scam and glad u picked up on it.

LOL Dude, you are a great addition to this poker forum... seriously mean that! I actually/honestly look forward to reading your posts on here whenever I log in.

Sidenote- not sure what 'SSI' is? Is that disability or something? Just asking because I too am on a disability pension & got me to wondering/thinking that probably alot of others (who play online poker, priv. micros, etc.) might be as well.

And something along lines of what AbnormalDan mentioned, wondering what happens if I pull down a big score? (ie. ship the MiniFtops MainEvent or something (I plan on multi-entering it.. but 'no'.. not making any plans on surviving to or past the bubble.. but you never know,.... I like to think I show up to the donkament lotteries with a couple more tickets than most (< might be a bit dillusional though, lol).

Scarey thread Petey. Scarey to hear that someone(s) can get ahold of that kind of info. & try to mess with ya. I've never really run into anything like that although I did receive one weird email that was some fake 'neteller scam', asking me for info. about my acc't. there when I don't even have one, lol. I'm real cautious/safe (or at least I think I am) on the internet, especially poker sites, forums, etc. (I avoid all priv. freerolls... ie. like the ones in the FTP lobby, although a few yrs. back I was a freeroll whore, just lucky I guess that I didn't run into any problems because of it (aside from a HUGE poker addiction that is, lol). Past few weeks I have also had a few other strange emails (but on an address I only use for poker forums, NEVER my other email addresses I use for friends, family & business) & even a few weird things on Skype with some strangers saying they want to be added as a contact (sayin' the strangest stuff.. ie. > I saw your pics. posted the other day on xxxxxxx & thought you were cute & that maybe you'd want to hook up & chat a bit or something? (obviously BS cuz I don't post pics. anywhere aside from maybe a couple in poker forums & never have my Skype addy in them, & really don't consider myself as bein' 'cute' (perhaps 'rugged', ha ha ha.... but definitely not 'cute').

Maybe would be a good idea to have a spot on the forum where members could post about stuff like this?? (ie. Neteller scams & simliar stuff).

That would be a grand idea PO because i have been hit by other scammers but they never got anything, it was a version of the whole Nigerian thing where they need you to hold some money and then bam, see i got this letter complete with a check saying that i had won some lottery contest or something that i never even entered ( red flag ) and they wanted me to deposit the check and then electronically wire them the amount they gave me to deposit minus a fee for me and that way a way for them to transfer even more funds to me would then be open only thing was that if you deposit the check and the teller doesn't catch it, and you send them the funds then the bank finds out the check was bogus and now you are on the hook for the entire amount, and to think some people fall for this shit ? At least the latest one they tried on me about my wifes bill sounded plausible

I manage an old apt. building & we have fairly decent/cheap rates (mostly because prev. management hadn't raised rents for 10yr. stretches at a time) & in the building we have quite a few folks on disability (many of them on mental disability).

ALOT of them have been taken on internet scams. It's really sad to see... because they are so lonely they seem to be willing to believe anything they read in an email.

There's been a handful of occassions where they no longer had money to pay their rents & when asked about it they'd explain about a person they'd met online who they 'helped' out. Some have even said, "I thought they might be trying to scam me but they just seemed so convincing... so sincere that I just couldn't say No."

It's pretty sad to witness this stuff. Scammers stealing from folks on disablit most of whom are living well below the poverty line & still draining them dry.

I've never evicted any of them & have often given them a few mos. to make up for missing the one month's rent. Pretty sure they still keep sending the $'s away though.

As soon as I see an email from someone I don't know... I tend to go into freakout/panic mode (not knowing a whole lot about computers, I'm always afraid of 'keyloggers', viruses, etc.).

I'll post any I get in near future (hopefully none).
