NO members in our freerolls
i am at the final table at poker.com freeroll tour 6 8/11,and there is a guy username mustymusk, who definitely isnt a member of this forum. We asked where he got the pw,and was laughing at me.
U have to protect this forum, and give at pokersites a list,so if someone wins and he is not a member,he wont be paid.

non members / no posters in freerolls
hi
yep I hear you ... I've tried the whole non member dont pay them out thing - it doesn't work as the poker sites have got more important things to worry about
running the entry via email list does in theory mean that non-members & members with less than 5 posts don't get entered but to be honest - it doesnt solve the no shows & this means alot of work for me and generally and increase of abusive / demanding PM's from members etc who seem to be unable to read basic rules and follow them
so it really comes back to the root of the problem - after all the passwords ARE protected - only members with 5+ posts can access them in the forum & only members with 5+ posts get sent the password in the auto PM - anyone else who gets sent them I do manually - and there aren't many of those (and not where the problem lies)
The simple problem is this - there are members with 5+ posts who post up the passwords in other places and pass it round amongst other password whores
At the end of the day I have less of a problem with the non members using a password they've been sent than with the actual members who are giving them out to people

freerolls / buy-ins & posting
hi
just to add to the discussions - please post any thoughts and suggestions - I do try to take on board everyones input and then factor this in with the backroom issues of administering the tournies ... I have to balance everything against the additional time / hastle for me as 4kingpoker isn't a big team of writers / marketeers + massive funding budgets - It's just me scrawnybob and whatever budget I can put together to keep things on the up and up (It's cost a hell of alot more than planned to get 4kingpoker where it is today BTW)
At the moment my thoughts are this -
Increase the posting requirements for freerolls to min 5+ posts made in the month preceeding a freeroll
Keep the 5+ posts overall for playing in the buy-ins
Run some more bigger freerolls / low buy-ins open to either new players at sites that sign-up through 4kingpoker OR only open to members who make a regular contribution to the forum
In terms of protecting the passwords - from experimenting it makes no difference to the numbers whether I post the passwords in the protected area or only PM them out a short time before the start - the freeroll password swappers are an effective network who will get them out quickly either way.
NB. as an affiliate commission for getting new signups through our banners etc is the only time we make any money - which is currently not paying me any money for time but gradually recovering some of the $10k startup cost & to fund all the other tournies open to members
if anyone has suggestions then I'm all ears - the interesting thing to consider is from feedback the majority of members are ... "just here to play the freerolls at sites I already play at" ...
what would really help 4kingpoker is if members signed up to as many poker sites using the links / banners we have - look under the red "bonus" tab (even as play money players - which doesn't earn money but will of players deposit at a later date) - this doesn't cost players anything BTW

Well all I can think of is make sure the passwords are hard to guess.
For example, don't have passwords like king9 and 4king etc.

im new here and i agree with you.
i think the person who had given the password out should be punnished as well as the person who isnt a member.
i no on poker.com used to have a friday forum freeroll. and if your caught saying the password to anyone you get baned for a certain amount of time

The hardest thing to try and prevent will be the integrity of some of the members of the forum, the stats at the bottom say there is like 1000 or so members but you only ever see the same group of people posting on a regular basis. So people are definately signing getting their 5posts written, which doesnt take long (espec seeing as some of them just type 'cool' as a post etc) and then they get emailed the password, also its very difficult to stop people who have been PMd the passwords from just telling other people what they are.
It is very hard to protect against these kinda things as no matter how easy/difficult the password, how short the time is before the tournement starts this can still help. Which is a great shame because there is a good group of posters on the forum who will be getting screwed over.
Bob is right we need to come up with ideas and suggestions on how we can try to reduce this problem!

Hi everyone
I haven't had alot of time to come by and post on a regular basis. Like Bob I am a poker admin on another site. We deal with the same thing each and every time we have or try to have private games.
One thing that we started doing, was requiring a player to post their poker site ID. Only the members that posted their Id were PM-ed the password. Due to trial and error, we have been able to cut out a few password sharers and also a few members that were even using multi-accounts on the same site. By PM the password only on game day, it also cut out alot of sit outs.
Bob I do feel your pain, I wish there was a way to make sure private games stayed private.
Once I have more free time (meaning I won't have to waste so much time trying to protect private games) I'll be back around to post more often.
Good luck on the tables.

Bee has excellent suggestions. Require the usernames. I like OPT. They seem to have it under control but I'm not positive on that. The usernames are required and there is a 24 hour notice if I recall correctly.
Not promoting their site, just recommending their structure as an example.
