try the games in HORSE
hi
I would suggest that if you can get your mates to learn the other games in HORSE poker as well as holdem - that way if you learn the other variations ... omaha, razz, 7 card stud and 7 card stud 8 or better ...
you and your mates will have learnt some great new games and also the most popular poker variations - if you can master them then you will clean up online as the players in the non holdem games tend to be learning them too ;-)
there are a whole load of variations with crazy rules - but your not likely to find them anywhere else apart from you home game ... and generally they are designed by the gamblers in a group wanting to increase the luck factor and reduce the skill factor

A game that my father and his friends play in there regular game is called gut. It is a three card game that can get the pretty exciting. There are no straights or flushes in the game, and the best three card hand wins. It starts with everyone ante. Everyone is dealt three cards and in order to play your cards you must match the money in the pot. Then everyone in to this point show down and the winner takes the money. The loser(s) have to match the size of the pot and the cards are redealt (to everyone). This continues until only one player enters into the pot and he wins the money left in the pot from the previous round.
There are tons of variations to this one. You can do a "pass left/right" version, where everyone passes a card to the person next to them. Or a draw version.
Anyways it is a lot of fun to mix up the style of play.

If you are to learn new poker variants, then i have to agree with SB, as HORSE is a basic for all poker. If you feel like it's too hard to manage, then you should give a try to Omaha hi/lo, where everybody could enjoy easily the game and learn it quick.
