I think you plan to play safe is a good one - its a good idea to be able to have the dicipline to be able to withdraw from your account but
I just think you may have set you threshold a bit low
personally I work on these figures -
•*for cash / ring games
10x the max buy-in - so for example if your playing $0.25 the max buy-in is generally $25 so you need total bankroll of $250 (10 sessions)
if you've been playing $1 (0.50/$1) tables I think the max buy-in is $100 so I would want a bankroll of $1000 before I even thought about playing this level
I now only play very low stakes (because I want to become a better player and it's your win rate not your bankroll which reflects this - there are plenty of wealthy but bad poker players)
but even for playing $0.10 (0.05/0.10) your max buyin is $10 so I would want to keep at least $100 in account at all times
playing at a limit where your not even buying in with the max and that is your total bankroll is a sure way to lose overall.
• for SnG's
dont be worried that alot of semi pro's play these - they also play ring games too (and at low limits too) - the key is patience and opportunity where you can exploit your very best hands.
But generally patience will get you most of the way - don't try to bluff at all to start of with - semi bluffs are ok some of the time
but you'll be amazed how many times you can make the money even when your short stack with 7 players left - if your patient
again absolute minimum of 20 buy-ins -
so for $5+0.50 SnG's need min - $110
or for $10+1 SnG's need min - $220
dont try to move up to the next level until you have at least the minimum
check out my article on bankroll management etc for more details
nice to have you in the forum - hope your looking forward to the next titan series - the last buy-in game $3+0.30 with $50 added is today (double points)
so if you do well I think you could still make the top30 for the final next weekend
if not the titan series II will start soon after that
and check out the other tournies this month at poker.com & pokerheaven
glad you found us - look forward to seeing you at the tables - as well as titan series tournies we're at Poker.com and pokerheaven at the end of the month
Hi there Red. Nice to meet you. Bob is very right about the bankroll management. And I think you are on the right track to discipline yourself to make regular withdrawls. I try to make it a point to always leave myself above my last bankroll amount when withdrawling funds. For example, if I deposited 60...got up to 180...that's 3 times the first amount...well, instead of taking out all of my profit (120), I would take out 1/2 to 3/4 (60-90). Low and behold, I have a profit in my bank account AND I have a larger bankroll to play with (90-120 now). Now the next time I get to three Xs that bankroll amount I will have a bankroll of 270-360 and when I take 1/2 to 3/4s of that I have an even larger profit withdrawl and a still larger bankroll since the last withdrawl. This allows me to build my bankroll consistently and helps displine me from pissing away all of my profits.
Don't forget though, that poker can carry a lot of ups and downs, so the simple idea of getting to three times your previous bankroll can be a not-so-simple, difficult road...but nonetheless, FUN!!
Hope this helps some. By the way, great job for only a few months of play!! Keep it up!
I,m really starting to like Noble, Titan, Cd Poker, and Bet Fred. Used to mostly play at Ultimate Bet. Poker Stars seems to be all right too. I'm kinda new to this whole league tournament thing and not very organized as of yet ; but it sure looks like the way to go. See ya at the tourny !
