Exclamation SunTsu and the art of Poker by The Gypsy.

SunTsu and the art of Poker by The Gypsy.

    The Poker Tournament.

    The Senses:-
    1. Sight
    2. Sound
    3. Taste
    4. Smell
    5. Touch

    SunTsu’s 5 Elements of War:-
    1. Measurements of Space.
    2. Estimation of Quantities.
    3. Calculations.
    4. Comparisons of Enemy
    5. Chances of Victory

    Gypsy’s 5 Elements of Poker

    1. Position on the table and in the hand.
    2. Size of Stacks on the table.
    3. Starting Hand % Chance’s, Pot Odds, and Implied Odds.
    4. Know Thy Enemy (Comparisons) Motivation, Ability,
Starting Hands, Betting Patterns, Likely Actions.
    5. Chances of Victory – Analysis of all of the Above.

Now Sun Tsu and My self start to lose the psychic link here, i.e.
Sun says integrate your enemy into your force to increase
    YOUR Power,

I say If my enemy is in a body bag he cannot annoy me at a
    later date!

    To be continued :-

This is an interesting comparison. If you're interested in a similar parallel, you should check out "The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene. Plenty of wisdom in there for a poker player. Among some of the laws: Enter action with boldness. Play a sucker to catch a sucker.

Reading it has come in handy at times at the table.

I agree to the fact that Poker is much similar to war.
I have read in the past a book called
"The 36 Stratagems of War" [SIZE=3][FONT=Comic Sans MS]and as i'm a good fellow, i give you a link to a synopsis of it on the web. Might interest you all.
I usually use one of this quote in my signature they translated in other way: [FONT=Comic Sans MS]"Beat the grass to startle the snake"

Here is the link to the web page:

About 36 Stratagems, Secret Art of War

I think most stratagems from this book are also useful for poker.

    Hi Max,
Yes I am aware of Greene's work, infact I have a copy of it in my Library..
Got to say here tho I have serious issues with "Law 7" for those folks that do not know what law7 is it's :-

"Get Others to do the work for YOU, BUT always take the credit!"

    I feel this is dishonourable...away....

    Hi Hojediade

Thanks for posting the link a Most enlightening read......

I have always belived that there is a "winning state of mind" involved in any sport, just like I belive most American Poker players DONT have a winning state of mind, hench there speech play when 2 of them get together on the table in a large European Event, There bantor and Tribalism, is a sign of WEAKNESS, of course this is only My Humble Opinion, But I do call pHILL hELMUTH and eSTEFARDI as my STAR witnesses.

OBTW Estefardi is know on the PRO Brit Circuit as :- Gloria" smacked arse little boy.

    Regards

GT you hit it right on the head. When Im rolling good I cant be beat no matter who Im up against. However when I suffer a bad beat or make a bad play even if I am ahead in the next hand if I have a "losing state of mind" it always seems to continue.

As far as Hellmuth is concerned: I dont give a fuk how many effing bracelets that whining little bastard has he really needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. I wait for the day I get the opportunity to play against him. He's gonna get DQ'd from the tournament from what I do to him since he wont be able to keep his mouth shut.

Its such a sign of weakness I cant and wont even begin to get into it.

    /end rant

    Hi Gnk and All,
It’s a strange game at the moment, I have seen some wired and wonderful “Games-man-ship”

On the live circuit, The current advice is watch players as they go up for the buy-in ( there behaviour), personally I understand the “higher” point of doing it, but I find it to intense and counterproductive to My game, I would rather relax and wait for the game start.

Helmuth has stated publically he thinks he should dress up as Uncle Sam next time he plays in London, with an entourage of good looking females in attendance !!! ROFLOL......bust out in a fit of laughterrrr rrrrr rrrrrrrrr.

“Holy Shit Phill” you have started to lose the plot mate!

I think in this current “Trading Climate” ie, difficult trading conditions, that 5,000 to 10,000 euro’s/dollars’/pounds is going to see reduced prize pools, less players playing, and increased pressure on the game from a psychoanalytical point of view for players to ”Cash”.

Now when “We” Have this scenario I think we will see some serious bank roll MISMANAGEMENT ! you watch and see if I am right.

I already have heard of one famous poker pro who owes the Bellagio a massive amount of money and I can not see how they can pay it back unless they win the main event.
