Congratulations to all of them, and to A. Saoult in particular, a frenchie that finishes in 3rd place.

I guess he would have gone further without a lucky trip deuces for the winner while he was holding pp Q's.
Seeems that luck was on HU players sides.

Too many wild hands that change endings.
Ivey with A-K, Moon with A-Q, the Q come Ivey out.
The one you mention 22 vs QQ and come the 2.
KK vs AA and come kK
QQ vs AQ and A in river
77 vs A-9, 9 come.
88 vs AK, Ak win.
and much more in all the tourney.
But for me i think the hand that hurt more in WSOP 09 was the one with Dennis Phillips when go all the way with A-K, 1 caller that turns A-K, and after see that both are tie, of course the other make a flush and Phillips out.
Still think that poker is 90% luck, the winner should be out way back, and most players were out with bad beats.

His mom wasn't too happy when he quit college to play poker professionally--but I think she's ok with it now.

Really?.. you think that tournament poker is 90% luck?? Then why is it that only ~10% of players are making money at it? AND.. why is it that some players do so much better than others in the longrun?
Sure of course tournaments can go south real fast in a big way (I've had my fair share of disappointments recently.... getting it in w an overpair over a pair |AI pre, late stage play.. ie. KK << 10-10, AA << 7-7, KK << 33, etc. etc. but also have a handful of deep finishes in the micro priv. tourneys I've been playing.
Joe Cada, the winner of the Main Event has a net profit of $450,000.00 in online MTT's... surely that can't be from 90% luck?
Today I ran a stat. tracker on the final 30 players in the Ftops22 ($2,500 buyin) and of those top 30 finishers there were over a dozen of them who were up at least $300K in profits in online mtts. There were a few who are losing players who were in the mix.. but they were far outweighed by largely winning ones. There were also a handful of players who were up over$600k.... but oddly enough (the 'short-term' luck thing).. one of the guys who made i to HeadsUp was playing his very first MTT on Fulltilt today (but he's played 88,000 hands on the cash tables.... but is a losing player on them, down $64k).
Tournament play can come down to luck in alot of circumstances but over the longrun it's a large percentage of skill that will win out.Brad Booth - > "Like a fight... it's not how you start, it's how you finish"

I STILL havent seen it. I don't have cable yet at my new place. What kinda poker player am I? Was it entertaining? I really am not impressed with WSOP coverage. I'm waitin for a channel to get poker right. There are so many poker players out there you think they'd invest in the ever growing audience.

The live coverage on the internet was the way to go for this one. The TV coverage is okay but you miss out on so much with it.
Sure WSOP TV coverage is pretty lacking but obviously is geared towards the largest target market that they can hit.... that being the inclusion of many folks who know very little about the game & are entertained to watch the big pots & big suckout hands. I think they'd lose alot of their audience if they showed a bunch of hands that didn't go to showdown, etc.
In my opinion it's at least alot better than alot of other poker coverage I see on tv... especially some of those british ones << that one commentator is just terrible... builds up the excitement in a hand by going off about whatever card is dealt.. ie. "Look.. and there's the 4 of hearts!!!" even though the card does nothing in the hand & who even cares if it did? Emphasis really seems to be placed on luck factor.. almost like it's a lottery or something. I'll only watch it on occassion to see some of the poker personalities on the tables.
As far as this year's MainEvent coverage goes, I thought it was pretty good (have watched it in it's entirety twice now and would watch it again if it were to come on the tv here).Brad Booth - > "Like a fight... it's not how you start, it's how you finish"

I remember you saying you were so tired in one of our games because you stayed up all night(over 6 hrs ) listening to the final table LIVE on the radio or maybe through a forum,s radio. With 9,000 players you have to win quite a few Races however and maybe have a few sukkouts yourself to beat that field. So there is quite a bit of Luck involved in this tournament.
I can,t believe how many people picked Phil Ivey to win even though he had such a Small Chip Stack. It would have been a miracle.

What are the odds that a former main event winner wins the main event again now. There are so many players entering in for it and it only grows it's really crazy. That means also that the prize money will be only crazier in the next years. Cada is already in the top 20 of the list of prize money winners with this win.

My guess is, the odds of them having a repeat win performance would be around 1 in 6,000 (or however many entrants are in the next one).
The prizepool has actually been bigger before than the 2009 MainEvent. I hope they don't turn players away at the door for the 2010 MainEv.
I wonder how many entrants will be in it when I play it? & if it'll even still be a $10k entry fee then?? (hmm... let's see... inheritance = WSOP entry fees, equals... who knows?)Brad Booth - > "Like a fight... it's not how you start, it's how you finish"
