    Default Live Tells

Has any one read Caro's book on tells for live games? I was wondering if it would be worth picking up. I saw it in the bookstore yesterday.

it would really depend on how much you play live and at what sort of stakes.
bearing in mind others who have read this book will have the knowledge to use false tells. Thus eliminating any advantage you might have.
If you put a search out for body language you would get a fair amount of information, why not read up for free about body language and signals try what you have learned. and if you feel it is helping your game then look for the book online as an ebook, which are normally much cheaper.

Thanks... but I'm really looking for specifically someone who has read it already.

no worries but its a fact that he learned the tells and reads he teaches from psychologists who use the same tells to see how far a patient is opening up and also when they are hiding things from them.
i was just trying to give u a cheaper way of finding some basic tells then you can see if u cant spot these. Then you will know from yourself if it is worth spending money on the book, as the way each person reads and interprets a physical tell is different normally based on previous experience, where something sticks in your mind it is often difficult to disassociate it from a certain read as it could be a random non standard reaction.

I have not read the book cover to cover but have read parts. A lot of it is just pointing out the obvious, hands shaky they likely have a hand, if they just won a nice sized pot and are still stacking chips and bet out then odds are the have a hand or they would just fold and continues stacking and smiling. Also acting weak when strong and vise versa and looking at the players instead of the board when a card hits. It has 3 main sections if I remember right. Forgive the terms it's not what he called them but it's what i call them. newbie tells, those who are unaware of what they are showing you, then there were the conscious tells from people that know your watching them and use tells to misdirect your play. A couple I love to use are lowering my head like I am weak trying to hide my eyes like I am worried about giving away that I am bluffing when I'm holding a monster. Or betting out in mid conversation like I know I am good and am not worried about if they call or not cause I got them and have nothing to worry about. The other section was the ones that didn't fall into one of those really more like a general tell and a lot of pics to show what he was talking about. Other areas were cash table selection, chatty loose tables sitting to the left of loose players and stuff like that. Like I said I haven't read it cover to cover but would really like to read it all the way through one day. After seeing it that is what got me thinking about how I should act in certain situations, strong or weak and trying to let my actions dictate the table as much as I could. Now that you have moved to cali I think and are playing a lot of cash games I would pick it up no question. $20ish bucks even if you only learn one thing from it, it will pay for itself the 1st time you use it.

Go and get this book, Stixy.
I didn't read it but i know books are a great way to learn, plus it's an easier read than .pdf files on your laptop.

To tell the truth, i'm now convince that i need to read more about poker than i did in past 2 years if i want my game to improve (No need to argue on that one SP, ).
Some tells are well-known and easy to analyse, like the one that want a player that have a good hand to protect his hand with a chip when he obviously isn't used to. Or when the player tend to curl up in his chair after seing the flop, meaning he probably missed it.
The other good point with reading poker books, is that you can carry them to the live tables.

According to 4kp rules, i post a link to MCU, the site of Mike Caro University in which you will find some really good stuff for free.
No poker review in that site so that i feel confortable to link it.

Here is an example of a video about what's going on under the table.

    Hope that would be useful.

I agree SP and I appreciate the post. Hoje I checked out that website and I'll probablly try and spend some more time there reading the free info. You all are right. I'd say the more you read (with conscious effort) the better player you can become. If you just read and it all goes in one side and out the other its no benefit. It also doesn't do any good to accept all the information as fact, but reading with a critical eye is extremely beneficial. Thanks again guys.
