Thanks for all the things to think about when playing as so many people playing so many different ways

I agree with ya Hoje, Im still liking it live and while Id love to be killing the game, I dont play with money I cant afford to lose and it that means 1 hr session or a 6 hr session. But I havent yet got tempted to touch money I shouldnt. I also agree what you where saying about the different bankrolled players and Im just going to have to figure out how to get around obstacles

And PO as always advice you give is golden now I wish I had the NADS to apply it to my game LOL

    Some tips:

    1) Fold your SB more than you think you should. It saves you $1 and it adds up. If you have 83o, you aren't getting the correct odds to call, even if it is a family pot.

    2) Don't get be afraid to play poker. Yes, play tight - postflop. Play speculative hands preflop. Don't be afraid to limp in. If you have 5h 6h on the button, play it. If the raise is to $12 or less, play suited connectors. Play one-gappers. Play low pocket pairs.

    3) Wait for monsters to put good money in the pot. You will get paid off.

    4) Pay close attention to the betting patterns of opponents. I think they are as reliable as physical tells. Some people will bet $5-$10 with bottom pair to 'see where they're at.' Pay attention to the people you are playing with. Young kids like to bluff. Old men don't.

Ex: I played a hand the other night where I had Kh 7h in the BB and just checked when it got to me. I flopped top pair in a multi-way pot and checked to see the action behind me. An older guy bet $15 ... The flop was K 8 4 rainbow. There was a caller and I mucked my hand. He wound up showing down KJ. As I folded on the flop, I guess I had my cards up and the guy to my left said something to the effect, 'I can't believe you are folding that here.' I said I knew it was no good and I was right. I don't call pot-sized or overpot bets trying to catch two pair or runner/runner straight.

If you are playing consistently at the same casino, you will play with a lot of the same players. They pick up info on you and you pick up info on them. Use it.

Oh, and always have more than one buyin in your pocket. You can't play poker with one buyin. I generally have 2-3 buyins, but I don't buyin full. I've found a comfort level at $150 in a $1/$2 game. I know I'm missing value when I hit a monster. But it also makes it easier to get paid off and double up. At this point, that is my happy point - $150 profit in a session. Not saying I quit at that point, but if I finish the night up that much, I feel I've had a good night.

    5) Don't get married to TPTK.

    6) Don't get scared off by 3-flush boards. I can't rationalize this other than to say I think flushes are more common online ... Pay attention to how the hand plays out and how the betting goes (again).

YOu get me excited PIRATES that I want to go play some NL right now, I cant wait till $150 profit a night will make me feel great. I still got some a lot of hurdles I gotta start getting the right feel for

YOur example K7s I might not even play esp OOP but I would play KTs and from your example you leave a nice open room to know if your kicker is good or not, where is if I drop off 9 or T kicker, it leaves me less room to decide if my kicker is good or not. Is the range opened up somewhat just becasue of it being suited or for a bigger gap to see if you catch the flop and have more options (If what I typed even makes sense). I dont know what type of bet would tell me they have TP plus a better kicker.

ALso same example you dont call pot or over pot sized bets to catch a 2nd pair or runner runner, but what if someone leads out a 1/3 or 2/3 pot bet on me, (HERE IS WHERE MY GAME REALLY STARTS GETTING ME IN TROUBLE) are they giving me the right price to chase.

ALso same example suppose the flop was K88 instead of k84 and some dude with KJ vs k7 is in the pot with you, what type bet would get you off of thinking he had an 8 and maybe not king

#6 is a big problem for me as I always fear the worse, playing more with my league is getting me off that but I tend to always fear they have it. I have heard ddifferent theories that if they miss the flush draw on the river they will bet super strong to try to push me off the hand, but in a recent live MTT i tried to buy into that theory and they acutally had it which crippled me pretty bad, but I might need to quit mixing apples and oranges (cash game And MTT)

This one might fall into #5 of quit falling in love with TP GREAT KICKER. I have taken a few bad blows from holding like KQ and had flops like K7Q and I either check or min raise and some one will make a big bet and I end of calling it and at showdown they turn over a 777 so I need to figure out what type bets shoudl of told me they hit a set where is I would put the dude on KA or QA or maybe even on a straight draw like JA or TJ. and even if the flop was k72 or Q72 I would still feel my hand was strong enough to stay in the hand, and gotta start figuring out that someone is coming on too confindent to continue

#2 is also a problem for me where I start losing my confidence as even if the bets wehre $8 and I start betting and missing a few flops and having to fold post flop, I need to quit letting that stuff bother me and I do need to rolled a lot better and quit being so cheap when I play

WELL ANYMORE ADVICE IM READING AND IM TRYING TO THINK OF SITUATIONS IM IN THAT APPLY TO YOUR ADVICE and I appreciate it so anyone IM ALL EARS,

Well, I didn't CHOOSE to play K7. I was dealt it and I was in the big blind.

Similar thing happened tonight. I get K2o in the BB in a limped pot. Flop comes KQ7 and I check and it gets checked around. Turn is another K and I check again. I like my hand but I don't love it. Someone bets $6 and I call. River is a 2. Bingo. I check again and there's another small bet. I put out a raise and get folds.

Here's a hand that will help you:

I pick up Kc Qc and I limp in. Flop comes K T 3 with two spades. It's checked to me and I bet $10. Turn is another K. It's checked to me and I bet $20. Opponent raises and puts himself all in ... it's another $30 so I call. He has 33. I don't improve. Thankfully he only had $30 behind. I think I could have found a fold for a $100 or $200 raise there. I think. Or I would have gone broke. IDK. It's a very tough spot. Basically just a cooler where you are destined to lose money. That's poker.

I did get upto over $100 at one point by pushing $45 in on AQ and a flop that hit the ace and it held up to pocket KK. but everything after was a disaster and I gotta get my head on right next time I play NO LIMIT.

I finally decided to not rebuy after losign my first buy in cause some older dude came to the table and the first 3 hands he was in he pushed in a $100 stack each time and lost all 3x and on the last hand I had 2 high pairs hit on the flop and called his $95 all in with my $32 and someone else called and that guy hit a flush and I was like, IM NOT READY and slowly moved my way back to the limit tables.

It was great fun though but I was able to play for $20 at the limit tables for the next 4 hours but I cant wait to get my NO LIMIT SKILLS RIGHT
Hey I have read the highlights of the other responses. I am assuming this is a cash game... It must be. I.M.H.O. you never sit at a cash game with anything less than the max buy in. If the max is $200, you buy in with $200. This is for someone who knows the ropes I suppose (brand new to poker, might not want to sit with max). It is smart to limit the amount of money you can lose, but you can't play your best. If you are going to succeed at poker, you have to be able to swim with the fishies. You will only play your best game if you can afford to lose the money you sit with. If you lose $200, and you still have another $4k in your bankroll, it's not going to be a devastating loss. These people at live cash games are crazy. They will push all in preflop with a PP 3-3, and not fully understand how unlikely it is to hit a set. PO said it best, you want to sit at these tables. Sure you might lose once in a while, but in the long run, these fools will put your kids through college. That is the problem though, who has $4k set aside just for a bankroll to sit at a $200 buy in table? Not me. But that is the idea. If you want to profit in the longrun, you need a proper bankroll. How can you push all in on air to get someone to fold if you are scared to lose? With a proper bankroll, patience, self control, determination, and of course, knowledge, you can be a profitable poker player. It is a checklist I have not "checked" every item in yet, but I'm working on it. It is a rush though, sitting at the table right? That first hand you get involved in, you feel like your heart is going to beat through your chest sometimes (I do anyways). Saying those words, "I'm all-in." What a rush dude. Peace.
