Default Joined a Live poker league today

Trying to get my live game in line so I joined a league today, free games (no winnings but a lot of playing) and the only cost is tipping dealers. They have a few money tournaments if you score enough points playing but they run different locations every night and should give me some great practice in correcting a lot of things wrong with my game now. Played around 6 hours tonight and it was a blast. Hopefully once I get really comfy playing live and tweak my playing a lot, I can come back with some better card room stories

Thanks Playful, this is great, Played like 10 hours live and many games in the last 2 days, Seeing actual chip stacks and such is giving me a better idea of when I need to be kicking my game into gear and not just waiting it out. IT felt really good today, as a lot of my pushes actually got some respect and a lot of times when I felt my hand was good it was good. Placed 2nd and 3rd in 2 different tournies today. Im going to try to play at least 5x a week for long sessions and then see if Im getting any better at the card room. So while the tournies are for points, they have bi monthly money tournies for the higher point people and then some other deal where the big prize is a WSOP setup prize so there is something to play for. BUt right now I just want to get my live game tight

Just wondering that seeing as the games are free does it attract alot of Newbies. Do they play like players would if it was for Real money or is the game weak?

Mr RG how ya been? Well it attracted me so I would say newbies are attracted and it kind of hard for me to judge weather the games are so weak. I will say many of the players there are also regular players at my card room, which Im finding out and they say they are there to keep their game sharp.

It seems each sessions brings in about 25 people and out of that 15-18 seem like regulars and the others come when the games on on their side of town. IT does seem that people are there to win, as people arent just playing ATC but there have been some occasions that people have taken down big pots on ATC bluffs much like you see in our league here.

The ages are in all ranges just like the card room, the retiress, the middle aged guys (me) and the young internet players and the whole thing is social to a degree, many times people will discuss why they did with they did (later to each other and look for opinions on weather it was good or bad) but the games are more card room like than internet like where 2nd pair good kicker will hold up as opposed to online play where it seems like unless your tptk dont even bother. There are the players (same as teh card room) that blow my mind how they can pretty much tell me what Im holding and tell their 8 obviously aint as strong as mine LOL (like when you called my pocket tens a while back LOL)

THe set up on the league is to keep playing going non stop so short stacked folks dont really have any incentive to rebuild as (they way it goes) the first game is a 2 or 3 table game and after a table in condensed, we start playing another single table game which anyone can join until the 400/800 blind level (and they do keep timers up for blind levels) which means once your out of of the first game and the second game is still open you can jump into that game. The people that survive the first MTT are kind of out of luck getting into 2nd game as its closed by the time it ends so then you do try to survive. Once the 2nd game is going, as people are bounced from either the 1st or 2nd game they join up to the 3rd game and once they have at least 6 people the game will begin. So the first game is the main one that feels like an MTT and the rest feel like 6-12 people SNG's or just final table play. This pattern continues until well after midnight unless too many people leave. SO Like myself I will try things I might not try if real money was on the table but by the same token, If I start building a stack I really try to make it ITM (or ITP in the points LOL) as it is giving me great final table practice

IM just giving you a run down of the set up and then it might answer if you think the games are soft and real. Ive seen people making the same type plays at the $65 MTT buy in at the card room when they get in chip trouble. Im not saying some folks arent there just to play some FREE POKER but I think its a pretty good mix and the ones playing soft can really mess you up if they do catch some of the flop. SUddenly these same people start wanting half your stack LOL.

While its free, the gest of the league is to tip dealers which everyone usually tips $2 a game so each night Im looking at $8-$12 and local resturants make arrangements to bring the league to bring in extra business, so most usually buy food or drinks and your encouraged to support the establishments with extra chips for each toruny, like if you buy one drink from the establishment, youre given 500 extra chips for each toruny your in that night and so on. Also a few of the players here are trying to get on as dealers for the league and get trained as in my 3 days playing there one dealer is already leaving cause he got some dealing gig on the road and is heading out. And those people seem to know their game quite well. I find the whole night great practice and actually look foward to playing, its helping me keep my cards in my head so I dont have to look, to quit fumbling around with chips like I do soemtimes at the card room when placing a bet and so on

DAMN ROB (ME NOT YOU RG) QUIT TALKING ALREADY. OK just laying out what goes down each night and YES IM sure there some very soft players and some not so soft and players like me who FN TRYING TO WIN and probably look like the softest of the bunch LOL

I have played more live poker in the last week then ever. Starting to feel a lot more comfy on the felt and my pushes are starting to feel like they are good bets, of course I try some of this stuff online and it just bothers me how much more high octane online hands always seem to be that , its worthless to even stay in the hand. But some of these hands live are giving me some good looks of how to play hands.

Im really looking foward to this weekend THURS-SUN, they are having their semi annual regional tournament at the holiday Inn on the beach and all of central florida groups are coming, so even though I cant play in the big tourny since Im new, they willb e playing nonstop side games for 4 days straight so I should get into some good games. As I will be there all 4 days except for the league game on here friday.

While I have yet to win first place, I have taken 2nd and 3rd about 6-8x I just cant seem to catch the right cards to get me the win, but OH well Im just updating my thread and I really hope all this live playing is gonna start getting my live game correct when I decide to rejoin my local card room

FINALLY TOOK a WIN TONIGHT and it felt really good, I built up and insanely big stack and was on a heater that I was making some dumbass calls and having it work out.

One lady keep pusing in 20K in chips, I got a JTs and I had a lot more chips than that so I made the call, FLop came KJJ so I was gold and made a bunch of chips came

FINAL 3 I made a stupid crazy call that paid off, BB (me) K4s Flop 248 Guy with the shortest stack pushed all in , I called to which I got what the hell have you got, I said you got me beat, I got the 4 and he tried to pull a bluff on the 2 and took him out

    FInal 2 ME-40K chips VILLIAN - 35K LAST HAND

BLINDS 4K-8K ME= J2o I decided to call the 4K flop 285 both of us checked Turn 2 She pushed all in so I called, she turned over 2-4 and MY jack kicker took me to my first victory.

I try to play very bookish in the beginning and middle but it once I started get later in torunies it seems I had to start taking chances and tonight they all seemed to pay off so IT WAS GREAT

PLus the win gets me into the semi-annual torunament for central florida so its a monkey off my back . IF you want to see a little going on, they just had their semiannual event last weekend and its all over their face book page, southeastholdem (on facebook or .com)
