Default World Series $5000 NL Hold 'Em

The $5000 NL Hold 'Em has only 640 entrants, which is the clearest indication of how much the online poker companies have caused the size of the main event to explode like it has done. Event 22 has a buy-in that is half the amount of the main event but has no where near as many enterants as the main event.

Personally I think the winner of this event is most likely goin to be a better NL Hold 'Em player than the winner of the main event, not to take away from the winner of the main event but it is much more likely that they are not what you would called one of world's best players, while the winner of the $5,000 is more likely to be one.

The final table of Event 22 is being played today and the top 20 finishers is a filled with a lot more recognisable names than this years main event top 20 will probably be. Players such as Phil Laak, Ross Boatman, Kathy Liebert, Chris Martin and Tex Barch are all in there. Some of the other bigger names are playing in other events such as the PL Omaha or were still in the NL Hold 'Em Shootout.

As a brit I've got to root for Barny Boatman but I've always liked Phil Laak

let us know how it pans out Dazzler - great to have some World Series info coming into the forum ;-)

Default editing - you did nothing bad ;-)

    hi dazzler

no nothing bad - all good

I just realized the subject title didnt have any mention of it being a WSOP event - so thought it would better identify it for people browsing

Best to use "World Series" as the WSOP have got really strict stupidly IMHO on how websites can mention their name - all the online sites promoting the WSOP online qualifiers etc

It should be ok to use whatever WSOP / World Series of Poker / World Series in the threads of the forum as this is discussion

but in articles etc now we have to use a disclaimer cant use the full name of WSOP name in title etc - total pain in the ass - especially as its free advertising for them

anyway - that was all it was - just putting World Series in the title

    cheers scrawnybob

Yeah I have heard of most of the final table, a lot of them play on the WPT or have seen success in smaller events at the World Series. For example Tex Barch has winnings of over $2.5m at the World Series alone. Nick Schulman is a young up and coming guy with 3 previous World Series cashs. Jan Sorensen has one 1 Bracelet and 7 cashes at the World Series.

I hasnt heard of the guy who won it, James Mackey, but he is a 21year old guy in his first World Series and this is his first cash and bracelet, although he had cashed at some of the circuit events.

Hopefully you'll recognise some of the names in the final table of the 7-Card Stud!

I didnt know that event existed, i think the TV is doing a lot of things good to poker. And i really hope they start broadcasting HORSE events much more.
Because right now they are only focus on holdem and thats not very good.

Most of the players that cashed in that event are not top pros but well known players, with fewer tv minutes than others. Id love to enter one of these events at least once in my life.
