'Fast' Freddy Deeb has won the $50k HORSE event at the World Series. The HORSE event has become somewhat of the unofficial decider of the best poker player in the world. And to be fair, who can blame people for thinking this. The $50k buy-in prevents loads of online qualifiers, although I think there was a few, which leaves it only really open to the top pros, such as Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth or Barry Greenstein, or rich amatuers, such as Gabe Kaplan (altho you could argue which category he belongs in) and Jeff Schulman.
This event also seems to be more important to the pros than the main event, thats not to say they dont like the main event but I just think they know the calibre of player is going to so much higher so they know they will ave to work that much harder. To show how much it means to those guys check Negranau's recent video blog and you can tell how down he was about goin out of the HORSE event.
This years final table ranked as the fourth longest final table in the history of the World Series lasting 14.5 hours, which shows that to win this event you not only have to be a world class player in all five versions of poker that are played but have the mental stamina and toughness to keep focused on these versions for a long long time.
So congrats to Freddy Deeb who scooped over $2m for his first place finish who takes the role from Chip Reese, as the unofficial world champion of poker (well, in my opinion anyways)
