Exclamation Type's of Poker Player, Part 1 Live Play

The Automatic Cash Machine. For short The ATM.

Know what I mean, guess I mean something different than you “Pokie” ( pokie = any Poker player, affectionate nick name/poker slang in the same vein as Gunny)

The ATM, that dude with the spots and in the daft hat, that can’t put a hand down with any paint in it, Hey man he’s a good player, I seen him play, he’s cool!

No “Pokie” he’s an “ATM” who over bets the pot!

ATM; psychological profile:-
Age 18 to 24
Occupation: - Student
Ability: - Rubbish, but lucky they think they are the next Jonny Chan.

Loves to hear his own voice at the table, plays with his mates, because there is security in a pack, drinks too much, and eats a lot of junk food usually at the table, because their life’s a disaster and they are not DISCIPLINED, reads Super System 2, can’t be bothered with Super System 1, its old hat (ARROGANT) Loves the suck out because they think it’s cool and they are the man!

If you ask them a question, the universal answer is they “They Don’t Care”
Do we Care? Yes we want all their money and they I promise are going to give it to US why?

Because their fearless NO! Because their GOOD NO! They are OUR ATM, They don’t know the most powerful play in poker and that is:-
THE FOLD!

What will they be doing in poker in 20 years time? Nothing they will not be playing
(quote Doyle Brunson)

Best Strategy for getting there chips:- Don’t raise ANYTHING, smooth call, One Gapers, and Suited Connectors, are the best weapon, watch out for the A rag suited, they ALLWAYS play them!

Regards

The Gypsy

Arrow Where did ya play?

Sounds like you had or a rought night playing poker live , or you dominated them for every single chip ?

Dont worry if they call everything , they are like morons who think they are the best like you said , and then get major suck out , and think that is how it should have gone all along, i mean it's not different how they win the pot, winning the pot is winning the pot , what is suck out ? i dont know that word, i had outs right ? any card can come right ? i mean havent you watched the wpt lately ? somebody goes all in with a7 utg , not even suited, and then gets called by a AK off suit , the flop comes down 5 K 5 , the guy will need runner runner 55 to split or runner runner 7 to win the pot , and believe me be , 7 turn , 7 river ! NASTY SUCK OUT, and you know what the guy with a7 says ? Yes thank you .. . like it was a good thing to suck out ???? DUDE I MEAN DUDE . HOW DID YOU MAKE IT SO FAR IN THE F* TOURNAMENT ??? Then you know ! Ohhhh he is super lucky donk fest poker player who is only going to finish in the money at this event, did we hear anything about the guy that sucked out with 7 7 ? Nope havent seen him at a final table anymore ... IMAO SST im can go on forever.

( Oh btw : Dont watch these sessions poker after dark, i mean my poker intelligence went down because of it LOL , fish ! )

Default play bad players

hi GT

this sounds a bit like the simplest advice for player / game selection - which alot of ok players seem to really hate ... still not sure why though

poker is a player against player game ... you win by out playing or by being better than other players

so I would always rather play against worse players than myself - the worst the better and even with the "bad beats" you will always win more against bad players ... or ATM's as you very aptly call them ... than players of a similar or better standard

I know alot of members and players feel they must move up to find "better players" they can outwit with "superior" play because they always "get beaten by donks in the lower games" ... but my feeling has always been ... why make things harder for yourself ?

freerolls, play money and the 1 cent games might be too low for anyone to take seriously but even so - we should be able to beat them

ATM's, chasers & loose passive players are your friend IMHO ...

they pay you off on your big hands

they happily build the pot - when you want them to

they put enough in the pot to make it worth seeing alot of marginal speculative hands (the problem here is NOT them NOT folding it "YOU" not knowing when to fold ... this is when truly good players show themselves IMHO where you can play close to the margins but come out ahead and not behind and make those folds

I enjoy playing against better or equal players (I count myself as moderately competent) but at no time doing this do I play with the sole aim of making maximum profit

playing winning poker is about taking the easy money and not losing when trying to win tough money

I think I posted somewhere else in a "your dream poker table" ... for enjoyment and expericence I would pack it with names and great pros ... but would rightfully expect to get totally broke

for a real "dream poker table" I would play against complete novice players, gamblers who also try poker and anyone with more money than effort to learn the game

so those ATM's are where everyone's profit is

the online poker tank can be a pretty brutal one ... survival of the fittest

the fish come and play and loose in the low stakes to low stakes min sharks ... who then go up and having done the hard grind ... get mugged by the mid sharks ... who then in turn have done the hard grind to then loose to the higher stakes sharks etc etc

the common denominator here is that over the longer term the "better players" at all the stakes always win ... eventually and or over the longer term

simple lesson (if you want profit and stay away from chasing the glory) ... always play players worse than you ... even if that means staying down in the cheap seats ... better to be consistently up a bit ... than consistently down alot

cheers scrawnybob

Default changing for the table ?

hi GT

am I right in thinking - you generally get everyone thinking alot more on multiple thoughts IMHO with your posts

that as well as decribing the ATM's your also talking about playing mind games with players at your table who you know you can get to think in the way you want them too ?

or were you meaning getting all of the forum to think about things more to generally improve their games ?

personally I love playing at tables that are a challenge and you can practice "jedi mind tricks" with them because you know they are thinking too hard or in a very predicatably "clever" way ... ie. you make the bet they dont want to see but expect etc

but at the end of it all I still (as much as people dont like to roll with the "donks") in terms of easy money I would go for playing the easy players everytime from a purely profit perspective

I guess you have to judge what your table is full of and try to play accordingly

maybe I didnt get the direction you were taking the thread so might have rambled pointlessly off topic

cheers scrawnybob
