(sorry - I first posted this in the Chat area and then realized what the forum name "Live Tournament" meant - I'm an idiot) Anyway...
Live games with friends have become pretty sporadic. I've lately just wanted to organise my own and not wait for someone else to put something together. I generally enjoy playing with a bunch of new faces. Even if they're sharks. Mostly.
In the past, when I wasn't a workaholic, I could comfortably invite strangers whose faces were familiar to me at the health club or coffee shop or something. But I have almost no human contact these days. That's about to change. (another story)
At one of the last games I attended, we needed an extra couple of players, so the guy who put the game together ended up advertising on
http://www.craigslist.org. The new player showed up, was a nice guy, won a fair bit of money, and left. It was an OK night, generally speaking.
Sometime later, I started hearing that advertising in this way was pretty damn dangerous because of robberies taking place at homes where poker games were known to be held. The bad guys' logical deduction was that there'd be a lot of cash on hand at an event like this.
If any of you fine people have successfully recruited new players blindly (without references from friends, for example), I'd appreciate knowing what forum you used, and how you conducted the introductions and traded information.
Thanks very much.
