Thread: rebuy strategy

  1. #1

    Cool rebuy strategy

I have never really played in these types of tournaments and was just wondering what type of strategies I should use. Should I rebuy right at the start of the tournament, how many rebuys do you usually use?

If people that play these types of tourneys could answer it would be alot of help

    Default rebuy or add-on

    hi

I've played a couple of these re-buys as live games and personally I'd rather just buy-in 3x as much and play a freeze out but thats a personal thing

alot of places find they can get a busy night with a £15 re-buy and plenty of players for a guaranteed £5k which ends up easily covered with 100+ players averaging £45-£60 in re-buys

to me I end up playing fairly conservatively through the re-buy while half of them move all-in then re-buy repeatedly I mean seriously - they'd have to make the money just to break even so I dont see the logic

I can understand taking a punt and maybe working on max 3 re-buys but really I've ended up in better shape (although not great shape) than half of them who chuck away £60+ gambling to than buy-in again just before the cutoff to then be sat with the original chip start and £60 lighter

I would rather pony up £60 or whatever the average is to play a freezeout - save 90 minutes of fannying around and get on with it

but these sort of games attract the gamblers who think it's going to be a £20 night and then get stupid and keep chucking another £20 at it again and again

I would try to do well double up off the gambling donks and if you miss when you should have hit - re-buy but do the maths so your not wasting money

    cheers scrawnybob

Rebuys games are a great ways to win something big if you're hitting and taking chips. I have a friend who with $3 made $200 in a rebuy game at pokerstars only at a 20th place finishing.

Indeed those games usually take ages to end lol

I think rebuy games are fun when you don't make a rebuy.
it sounds crazy but this is for me a good way to win cheap money.
I play rebuy games with a guaranteed prizepool of $5000 I buy in and only wait the first hour.
I only play the bighands (AA,KK,QQ,AK) after the first hour the rebuys are over and then you can start real playing. Most of the time I end up in the money so maby try it out.

My experience in that kind of games hasn't been good.
Perhaps I must change my way of play until the first break, but so far I will try to avoid this kind of games.

Rebuys are one of my favorite tourny's online. I like to play them pretty much the same way as any other tourny except early. Early on I will gamble and play a bit looser in order to get some free chips from the players that are rebuying like crazy. I usually do not addon at the start but do add on at the end of the first hour and I usually limit myself to 3 rebuys. Once you build an above avg stack for your table it is time to play regular poker again. Just do not be afraid to get it all in early on in the rebuy hour it is worth it. If you give a good player a large amount of chips going into the mid stages of a tourny final tables are going to happen regularly. That is why the $109 rebuys online are so popular with all the internet pros.

A few years back I was Managing a Poker room, and the average rebuys were usually around 2 1/2- 3X the entry/player, and as for add ons, personally I never think the equity is worth taking.

rebuys arent to good you shouldn't rebuy more then twice i dont unless it's a really low buy in you can come back and win but what are the chances all ways thnk about your odds and how many players there is and how your playing and running
