A player in MP with about 4,000 chips pushes allin.

I look down at 88 in the small blind.

    Call or fold?
I would Fold, it's a marginal hand for your tournament, ie: all your chips.

With blinds & antes in play, guy shoving was short-stacked as well so his range could've been fairly wide and 88 is probably +EV, but also considering all the dead money in the pot, the odds you're getting on making the call, the fact that you're shortstacked... seems to point towards call for sure.
It also depends upon what the other stack sizes are like and how they fare in ratio to the blinds (ie. on Carbon tourneys, everyone is shortstacked prior to the bubble).
this is good advice, and i would do the same in this spot. 88 is more than likely the best hand. looks like a good spot to either double up or go home.

if your a few spots away from the money you may want to fold. it depends on your BR.
myself, i would be all in most of the time.

Contrary to what many have written here, this is a snap call here in this spot. You're extremely shortstacked with less than 8bb's left and if the guy who shoved is a decent player, he should be shoving on a fairly wide range here, most of which you'll be ahead of here w 88. Your 'M' value is '5' and anytime your M value is 5 or under, you're looking to get it in asap. Often though in private tourneys where you see the blinds skyrocketing and many of the players still folding on shortstacks, one needs to alter their play and tighten call range but still ship it fairly wide in LP. Pick players who when they hit the blinds you're looking to shove onto them (sometimes it doesn't matter what cards you're holding although it's nice to have something that will at least potentially hit a flop if in fact you do get called (ie. T8o+).

Really your chips are worth nothing. You are extremely shortstacked. THe odds you're getting here are fantastic (w blinds/antes in pot, you're getting great odds for the call... a hand like 8-8 here I'm sure has far greater equity then what we're needing to make the call).
ALSO... with blinds already at 200/400 and just past 1st break..... this seems like a turbo blind structure (or at least a fast structure... blinds don't usually hit 200/400 til after 2nd break.... or 3rd break).
I'm a bit surprised by the responses on this thread and is kinda why I'm posting on it again here.... this is a SNAP CALL (imo)..... I should come back to it again but the next time I will bring the equity equation with numbers to back up my claim (need more coffee b4 I can start crunching numbers in my melon).
