Thread: Tournament Strategy Question

  1. #1

    Question Tournament Strategy Question

    Alright,

Thank you all for helping out with my previous questions.

Here is something that happened with me yesterday while playing a 180 player tournament. This happens alot and I see it happen with my friends with with other players online, so wondering what do you usually do here?

Blind is at 125/250 your stack is around 3800 you are 29 of 85 players left.

You are dealt 99 after along streak of useless cards.

Half the players ahead of you fold, one guy before you calls all in with 1200 chips.

Do you call? Do you fold? Do you raise all in so your heads up with him?

Other important factors. There are still 2 players after you too act. everybody else has folded. You have been at this table for only 8 minutes and you know that everybody is super aggressive on this table. i.e. everybody bets for value. Also blinds to raise in 2-3 minutes and you havent made a pot from when the blinds were 15/30.

So what do you do now?

    Default Id call

    hi

Id call with 99 - ok its a 1/3rd of your chips but you have a half decent chance to take someone out

Id probably call with any PP better than 88

anything less I would want to have more chips if I lost would probably fold ... also same fold with AK

if they have any PP even 22 your behind and need to get lucky and hit one of them

when they go all-in I guess you have to figure out how long they have been waiting & whether they would go all-in with an pair regardless of how low and also suited Ace / suited king or any two suited / unsuited pictures

thats really what your hoping for - if they flip over 10 10 or better then you go to get lucky but it wont kill you if you dont

    cheers scrawnybob

In this spot, I'll opt to see the flop. Shoving is overplayinmg the 9s a bit since you'll get called by a hand that may have you beat. From there, hope to eliminate the all-in person and build your stack.

So your happy to lose 1/3rd of your stack knowing there are some more after you to act..Then what would you do if someone after you goes all in pre flop.Do you fold or call?
Knowing the other stack sizes would help.

depends on my exact feeling that moment it's either ALL-IN or fold for me. not calling and face a decision if there are two others to act who are sitting on decent stacks, i'd better put my pressure by putting all my chips in.

again if you lose you lost 1/3 but not dead yet

I vote for raise allin and pray that the next 2 players do not call. But then again, this is how I've been knocked out of many, many tourneys - so don't listen to me, lol.

Alright I intentiionally did not state what happened as I thought that would change ppls decisions. Interesting though only one person said he might fold. only one.

But for people who said they would CALL: 2 guys after you 1 folds the other raises you all in what do you do?

Remember you have been on this table for like 6 minutes and dont quite know any player except that everybody is better their hand. That is you wont see the flop without a raise- call.

Jackoff_4me this is exactly what happened.

I raised all in in hopes that the big stack on my left would fold with something not very strong.

ahhh he had the thing checked - you knew which thing? its the "Call Any bet" thing

Hands where 99 for me, TT for the small stack, and KK for the whale. Needless to say we both got raped. (from small stack smart guy who all-ins to medium stack smarter guy who double all-ins to the belly of the whale with KK) whyd u all reply to this thread - I almost forgot about this hand hahaa

Actually i think its good reminder so next time I dont dick around with 99. I think its like willie beaman said its overplaying them and being at 23 from 90 I dont need thi sheeet.

I think probably best play is fold, then call and fold or you get reraised by the big stack. right?
