Once again some interesting responses, A2 A3 double suited is accepted as the best starting hand in 08. It is also not good EV to play for 1 pot only, never play a hand in the early stages of a tournament where you cannot win BOTH hi & lo pots. Way too many times you'll see peeps calling hoping to hit lo for what they perceive to be 1/2 the pot. Assume the pot is 200 and your oposition bets 100, you have no chance of high and are drawing for a lo hand, you call for 100 and won the lo hand, Q, was it an even money bet? you bet 100 to split a total pot of 400, you win 100 for your 100 bet, absoloutely not worth the risk h/u. Best advise I can give is DON'T play danglers !!!! ie. 3 good cards with 1 that is totally useless. eg Ac2c 3d 8s, the 8 is the dangler, no use to you at all, fine to see a cheap flop in a multi-way flop, but fold to any raise UNLESS i'ts a limit game. Another important thing to remember, it's a drawing game, it's not what you have, it's what you can make
, the nuts on the flop is usually down the toilet by the river.

A2A3 is the best hand to play with

This thread is a clear display of the total lack of consolidated knowledge on O8. I mean is it A
K
A
K
or the twice mentioned A2A3?
Or is this game inherently more ambiguous? Where holdem we know AA is 80%ish preflop on most hands, its just not the same in Omaha? As pothole mentioned, it is a drawing game. Does this mean it pays more to chase in Omaha? So many questions so few consolidated answers. lmao

Only chase in omaha if you are getting good odds to call.
In Omaha HL never chase for half the pot. Its ok to call small bets if a few players are in the pot but if players are betting the pot fold the low draw. Even if it hits they could have a low as well then you get quartered EEK

I Spent a month playing O8 Cash games and another playing SNG - mainly all 5-6 handed so my hand choices are a little loose - take that into consideration if playing FR
MUST Play:
AA23
AA24
AA34
A234 (try to play small pf)
As long as you are playing for limp you can call profitably with and 4 wheel combo - however if yo limp 2345 - and there isn't an Ace on the flop - time to get away more than likely.
Other playable hands:
A223
A233
AA22 (double s)
A23x (double s)
A24x (doudle s)
A334
2334
2234
O8B is pretty much the polar opposite to NLHE - pre flop hand selection is vital - you don't want hands with 6's and 7's - because you will nearly never make the nut low and will be vying for at best half the pot.
However, the hand selection is not rigid - on the BTN in an unopened pot (unlikely) - you can attack with a looser range, or you may play a slightly looser 2356 against someone who you think is weak and can attack postflop.
I know this is not a perfect solution, just my ideas, O8 is quite possibly my favorite game so im open to discussion
