    Default Omaha vs. Omaha hi-lo

Anyone want to share their thoughts on what they prefer? I am going to focus on those now and steer away from NLHE/LHE except in tournaments.

I seem to prefer regular Omaha without the hi-lo, but that's just because I had more success at it the other night. Splits are extremely frustrating; unless you are 3-way or more, you are losing money to the rake. For this reason, should you concentrate on FULL RING as opposed to shorthanded?

    Good luck.

H/L was my game of choice, I still visit from time to time but like you stated, the splits are frustrating. The low betters re-raising with no high and getting you quartered, I could go on and on but the bottom line is I tilt too easy on H/L.
Saying that, I believe that playing H/L first made me a better Omaha player than if I’d just hopped across from Hold ‘em.

I have never played shorthanded but from what I’ve observed it’s a much more aggressive style. Maybe I’ll try it one day but for now I’m just going to stick at what I know best, that would be FR. I'll build my bankroll and then probably go off on another self-implosive adventure.

I’m not sure what site your using but I can tell you that Pokerstars has a pretty good FR Omaha population G.M.T. evenings, and it’s not too bad but still quite a bit slower U.S. evenings. There always seems to be a healthy population on the six-handed tables.

Tough to find Omaha SnG’s on Pokerstars though and always easy to find the H/L. I have never figured out why but then I’ve not put too much thought into it either, it’s just the way it is I guess.

Omaha is my favourite with pot limit betting. Not too keen on the Omaha High / Lo as you have to decide whether someone is betting on the high or low pot and as someone else said I want the whole pot to myself!

i guess i'm going to stick to fixed limit games in the future. i have about $4 left at tilt after the latest 'suckout.'

get dealt 9h 9c Td 7d on the button last night. raise pot. sb reraises pot. i call.

flop comes Qd Jd 8h. ding ding ding.

SB bets pot, i raise enough to go all-in. he instacalls with AAKT. no diamonds. of course, the turn is a 10 and i'm left gasping for air.

i mean, what else am i supposed to do here? my raise was like $15 out of my original $45 stack ... not like I could call then fold.

this is after losing a huge pot on a Th 8h 6c board with bottom set to Ah 9h Ad x when he was willing to shove the flop and got lucky. I guess I'll just wait for AAKK and bleed money until I get it.

    I much prefer Omaha Hi.

Can't seem to understand the concept of Hi/Lo very well although I'm sure I will try harder to get to grips with it at some stage.

I have played some of both but won't buy into them as NLH is my favourite and best game.

    I much prefer Omaha Hi.
It look's an honest mistake but I thought it was funny. I agree with the rest of Playfuls statement
MORE OUTS AND BETTER WINS ESPECIALLY IF U TAKE BOTHS END OF THE HI AND LO
But how often do you sweep especially in a heads up situation. Your best bet is to play the Hi as alot of Hi/Lo only play Lo cards. Therefore a more likely scenario would be 3-4 players call the river and Hi quarters the Lo callers. The frustration for me is when somebody is firing away when they have the nut lo with absolutely no Hi whatsoever. I have no respect for these players as more then likely they're fixing to be quartered and take down the rest of the nut Lo's with them.
Had a strange situation on Hi/Lo the other day. Flop came A 9 9 and I'm holding quads on a tight table. I min bet, 4 or 5 callers. Turn is a lo card so I decide to bet pot and see where the lo chasers are. I get 2 callers. River another Lo card but it gave me 2nd nuts on the lo and quads. I value bet and the guy next to me raises the pot. 3rd guy folds. I reraise all in, he calls and he's holding Aces over 9's (boat) with no Lo.
My first question is why would he limp to the river when he's only holding a hi hand with no lo possible?
My second question is why would he reraise with no lo?

Cheers Limey, got a good lol out of the first part of your post.

I agree that it was a strange re-raise by the player only holding a hi hand.

Alot of players will be mislead by the strength of their hi hand and just want to get the chips in.

He had to know he was splitting the pot but he was blinded by the haze of Aces.

    VNH BTW.

I play Omaha-8 a lot and I love it! Ray Zee's book (although mainly about limit play)was a big help in learning the game, and improvement comes with practice.

The $1 MTTs on Poker Stars are good tourneys - usually over 1.000 players with a deep payout but also good money for a final table finish.

I can and do play almost all forms of poker, but Omaha-8 has a grip on me at the moment. Can be frustrating, but persistence and a bit of study is required - as is the ability to sometimes fold the nuts.
