Default must learn stud / omaha / 5 card draw

hi all

well with the growing interest in HORSE and all the other non texas hold-em variations I decided to spend a couple of hours back at my old favourite PokerRoom & try out the other variations of poker like Stud / 5 card draw & omaha - I was even sensible enough to do this on the play money tables just to pick up the gameplay

It was actually really interesting - Omaha is ok as I think I can get the hang of that reasonably easily, 5 card draw is like the poker we used to play as kids but 7 card stud was really hard work.

I guess it would be easier in the flesh as you would be able to see the cards better and keep track of it at a slower live table - but I wouldnt say I'm going to get the hang of it anytime soon.

The real challenge was adapting to limit games having played mainly NL hold-em playing limit did feel really odd

It was fun to try something new and I'm definately going to get some more time in with these games

cheers scrawnybob - webmaster

Question must learn

Hi, regarding learning the variations to Texas such as Omaha, apart from just logging onto a site blind and having a go, from experience are there some sites which are bettter than others or not?

I'm a very active HORSE player
and I can not stress how important learning this game will make you a lot of money.

like yourself, you see it as something new, a challenge
players like myself prey on the new blood that really don't know the fine tunning of.........
all of the games.

a few tips?

in a tournament don't get to excited and play a lot of pots early
and defiantly don't be drawing early either.

You will find yourself in the Holdem part early, people play a lot of flops
and it will seem like " pot odds, gotta call "
and then you realize your stack has whittled away pretty fast.

Then you get to the omaha, and every hand looks 'playable' , its far from that
you have to be more selective in early stages of omaha
but kid you not, early rounds omaha games will be big pots

the draw games
take your time pre flop
look at your cards and look at what you can see of others
knowing your outs are all ready in play should be enough to think about what your realistic odds of making the best hand is.
