I am quite new to playing online poker. SO far I only play at CD Poker. good sites wont rip you off - they will give bonuses etc as an incentive to play or signup

AFAIKS if you deposit x amount and x amount is there in your account then you cant be ripped off - however bonus offers can be complicated - generally there isnt such a thing as a free lunch ...

so on the instant bonuses on sites they have worked out on average that most players stick around and play long enough for the free money to balance out

the same goes with straight 100% type bonuses - you work them off earning points etc based on your rake - so the poker room know that if you've cleared a big bonus then you will have played alot of poker
