Anyone else read Sklansky's "The Theory of Poker" and found the section on Game Theory & Automatic Bluffing interesting ?
I read it a while back and although I find his writing a bit hard going it really gets the grey matter ticking - especially this section which seemed like a really good way to mess with players heads
I commented on this technique while playing an online tournie ($50 SnG) when I had got caught on a terrible bluff and the more I explained the technique (saying this was the technique I was using when really I'd just been a muppet) ...
the more I totally messed with a couple of key players heads - after a few more hands I had totally taken control of the table - without making any scary / aggressive bets - think I got 2nd in the end
In fact the smaller I bet the scarier I became to them - this is a technique I still use to great effect (in the right situation) - when against good players (only) a bet which they should by rights call ends up making them fold.
Has anyone else heard / used Game Theory online ?
cheers Scrawnybob

Bob - I studied game theory a good few years ago but haven't read Sklansky's thoughts on the application to poker. What are his ideas regarding game theory and poker?
Sounds like another book I'm going to have to get...
game theory definately has good application to poker, dont believe then just ask Chris Ferguson, his father is a professor in it and chris studies it as well.
Slansky's book in the 3rd book on my list to get, behind the Harrington books and just before the Caro book of tells
I’m not saying this to brag as honestly in my opinion its not something to brag about (it is a tough life I wouldn’t wish upon anyone, and would not trade for anything in the world. I’m sure this doesn’t make sense to most). I am 27 and for 8 years my primary source of income has been from gambling. Primarily Poker, but some sports betting and proposition wagering.
I have a strong opinion that reading the Theory of Poker and taking notes should be a prerequisite of playing poker as a source of income. This book is genius and has so much value.
There is a saying I heard once that has so much value: “If the how to’s were enough we would all be happy, rich and thin”. While this book has some of the how to’s it much more. It helps a player learn to think like a winning player.
Also from much experience I’ve learned that thoughts direct our actions and actions direct our results. A sharp mind thinking correctly is so much more powerful then how to’s.
This post might sound like whacky psycho babble and maybe it is but the point is: Great book I highly recommend.
Jim hit the nail on the head IMHO it's all about making you brain work harder and think more laterally and also really understanding the fundamental's
