Default Stack Sizes- Is it the #1 Factor for MTT success?

I am not recollecting what pro wrote this but thought it would be cool to post it and get your reactions.
    Do you agree or disagree?
Stack Sizes- you should still take flops with people, because they will play really badly and make huge mistakes post-flop, but you have to be conscious of your stack size and what it allows. Everything — and I mean f---ing everything — in tournaments is dependant on stack size; it is clearly the most important concept

I don't think it's the number one factor for MTT success. It is AN important factor, but not THE MOST important.

stack sizes are very important. the bigger your stack the more you can do, and the less that other players can do to you. also very important to have stack awareness. allways take note of a players stack size before you make any moves on them.

but just as important is to have a read on someone, and how they are playing the game.

I would be inclined to say that your 'current table image' would be just as important.

    As an example;
I remember reading in Brunson's Super System about getting 'card rushes' from time to time and how to make the most out of them.
Just say you win two hands in a row, his advice was to play the next hand almost regardless of your holdings.
The longer you can keep a hot streak like this going the more likely it is to affect the other players. They may even leave a note on you labelling you as 'super loose' or 'a manaic', when all you did was play an undesirable hand or two out of position.

Default important but agree not the only factor

    hi

I'd have to agree with some of the other posters - stack size is certainly important but its not the only or the most important factor in playing in a MTT

chip and a chair means you always in it ... til your out of it

that said stack size very definately dictates or should influence how and what you play and why

the way I look at it is this ...

    big stack - more options

    short stack - less options

middling / average stack - the feeling you have more options than you actually really have

so I think in a sense it could be viewed as the no1 influencing factor on how you adapt your basic game - ie. increasing or decreasing your creative options or having to clamp down and wait for a chance to get your chips in with a big hand if short stacked

but I dont think you can name one factor as the reason for MTT success

IMHO its more about having a recipe for success or a formula ... thats going to involve get the right mix of ingredients to get it right - if that makes sense

    cheers scrawnybob

Default There is more to it than the OP's Pro says

I sort of agree with the OP's Pro, however I think theres more to it, and I am pretty sure the OP didnt put all of the post up, WHY? because it's remarkable like some thing I wrote a while ago for a poker website..anyway no matter:-

One stlye of play is to Call MORE starting hands, lets say SKLANSKY group 1,2,and even 3 if the buy-in is below 5% of your Full BANK ROLL and if you are chiped up with 27 times the combined blinds at any given level. AS a normal play. BUT change gears to ROCK/Weak/Weak Calling station ie: TRAPPER a few times in the mid game.

    Does it work?

guess what the answer is SOMETIMES it DEPENDS!
