If you are skint, what is the best computer poker game to play to make some money fast ?
( Just lost My job![]()
hi
you mean the easiest site to win money on ?
I would go for Bodog, Carbon Poker or Pacific Poker as the loosest places with generally weak games going up to higher limits than at some of the other sites
also see one of our top 10 lists ... for more suggestions
Top 10 easy to win poker sites list
also we have over 50 site bonuses - so for example we have several site available on most networks - see the full poker bonus list here
BTW really sorry to hear you lost your job - although your emotes look like your not so stressed about it ... however I wouldn't go too crazy on the online poker - it can be good money but as I always advise DONT bet your life on it ;-)
personally I've always had better success at the smaller / medium sized sites - but that may just be me - and I DO target the softer games - I see zero point in being proud and trying to beat better players or playing nose bleed games for the rush (although I do now and then but only if I can afford to for the hell of it
IMHO just go for the easy money and low stakes games and grind grind grind - bank and build
being a daily ginder at the tables IS alot harder than it looks if you HAVE to make it pay
personally I would suggest grinding out at the cash tables - start with full tables (less swings), try short tables but make sure they work for you and IF you have a half decent PL omaha game - then you will find rich pickings there - IF you havent then you will just be joining the easy cash there ;-)
IMHO while sng's are good for tournament experience once you've ground out enough of them I'm really not convinced the profit is there for the time
Hopefully GT and other knowledgable players will help and give suggestions - BUT any cr*ppy one word / one site pointless suggestions without substance are NOT welcome in this thread
cheers scrawnybob

Sorry to hear you lost your job cracker same happen to me in January, and it sucks
I've been supplementing what little the state give me with poker winnings but it's hard, the enjoyment goes out of the game when your dinner depends on it.
The best return on investment I've found, because I'm not good at cash games, are the guaranteed games on Pokerstars usually they run on the hour. My best win being $735 on a $2.50 buy in. Big prize pools but you have to get deep into the final table and be prepared for 8 hours work to get there.

My suggestion. I can't suggest because I'm not familiar with your game.. only you are. Surey you know what your niche is in online poker and know where you make money. Not sure if you are referring to 'what sites' or 'what games'.
As far as what games. If it's NLHE, each are played with differences, some subtle, some not so subtle. If you're not aware yourself of what types of games are most profitable for you, I'd suggest going with the ones you enjoy playing the most, then do your homework on that specific type and learn it in a big way.
Many avenues for this (ie. books that are specific to what you're playing, be it sngs, mtts, or cash tables), training video sites, HandReplayer tools along with an ICM calculator for reviewing sng play (learning stuff like ICM if it's sngs you're interested in), reading HH posts and reviewing comments made by online pros, checking out other's paths to success with online poker (the path they chose with pitfalls & successes), reviewing, reviewing, and reviewing some more.
If you're not already a profitting player online, I don't think that any one game is going to make it for ya but I do suggest sticking to and specializing in just one.
It's a process and can take time. Perhaps looking for another job might be the answer (not meaning this in a sarcastic way at all). Trying to make the switch over to playing online poker to provide a living for oneself is a big adjustment.
Players I know who have made this adjustment in their lives are almost all playing 6-MaxNL as this is where the money is for a winning player and for one who is very familiar with the play on those tables (there is also a TON of material online that is specific to playing 6-Max). ALot of these guys had previously gone the sng route but found it to be just too big of a grind and to make a decent living at it (or one that would basically just sustain them), they would have to be multi-tabling the $33's & up and putting in some lengthy sessions each day. Even at the $20's, if you figure you can run with an ROI of even just ROI+10%, you'd have to be playing 5tables at a time for 8-10hrs. per day to clean on average $100US per day.
One may run at a higher ROI then that but when you jump up in buyins the competition gets tougher and to maintain a higher ROI becomes that much more difficult.
Anyways, most of the guys' stories I've read about and have some experience with, now play exclusively on 6-MaxNL.
Here's another thing to keep in mind. If you are playing on tables like this, at buyin levels that would be high enough to sustain a living for oneself, then guess what.. .you'll be sitting on the tables with a bunch of guys who have already been doing this,.. some of them for quite some time.
Another route that some consider is NLHE MTT play. To try to go this route one would need a substantial poker bankroll to begin with (ie. in excess of $10K if one hopes to regularly be playing in the $100-$200+ buyins online).
There again you'll be on tables with other players who've been doing well,... some of them for years. A large majority of them being College/University grads. from computer science, math, etc., and have leaped into the online poker world, using their inherent skills to crush the poker tables.
I've read about many of these types' paths as well. Not always the easiest of grinds especially during times when they've had large and long droughts between decent cashes. Again,.. you'd be playing on tables with players with a ton of experience. Not at all impossible by any means, but they've gotten there by putting in the time.
Personally I think that jumping into online poker as a means for an income would bring with it alot of stress. I mean even as it is for me just as a hobby, I put a ton of pressure on myself to win. If I had to do so in order to pay my monthly bills... hmm.. not sure how that would go over for me.
Good luck in whatever you choose to play!

1st Bob and PO have made some very good points that I totally agree with. Free Good advice is GoldDust. Well done Guys.
Now Cracker,
The way I read your script is the way I answer the question so:-
IMHO in this case you are better off playing 7 Card Stud ring games at the lowest level at either FullTilt or PokerStars.
Why:-
1/ Lower buy-in fees and more punters in FT or PS and both servers are better run than anyone else ex Carbon but I dont think Carbon has the 7CS traffic yet.
2/ Playing stud you will put smaller amounts in preflop so not risking too much of your GameRoll, and you will play off your bonus points far quicker thus giving you more bankroll faster.
3/ If you dont know how to play 7CS pm me and I teach you.
4/ KEEP away from 5 card stud you have more chance in 7CS

Thank you guys some good stuff to read
Cash games is best. I would say your best game. If you are depending on it to pay your bills, you have to be willing to work long hours. Work means exactly that, work. You have to play many hours just to make the money in the first place. You also need to be improving your game as much as possible. The only way to improve, is to study, read, study, learn, then learn some more. If you was working a skilled job, you went to school, training etc... Its the same for poker. If you are the type of person that takes off just because you do not want to go in or feel just a bit bad, you better fix that real fast, it wont fly, you have to work even when you do not want to. Its nice because you can work when you want, but... you still have to work even when you dont.
It is not for the faint of heart. There is alot of math and psychology involved. Add to that the pressure you need to win to make money to pay your bills and it can become very high pressure, and mess with your mind in ways you have not even thought about.
BR management is very important, you CANT go broke or you risk losing your income with no way to replenish a busted BR.
You have to be able to do this at levels you are already a proven winner at. Do not move up just because you "need" or "have" to in order to sustain yourself. That is a recipe for disaster even if your BR supports it. Wait until your ready to move up in all aspects (Skill, BR, Mental etc...).
To be honest, just the way you asked the question makes me worry a bit... Poker is not a get rich quick scheme, but it can easily become a get dead broke quick scheme.
Good luck. Keep us updated.
Also, when you have a good week/month etc... save the extra back. There are going to be times you pay to work. So not only are you not going to make anything, your going to lose some at the same time. Be prepared for it, it is going to happen.
