Thread: I need advice please

  1. #1

    Default I need advice please

    Ok all,

For those that know me I alternate between having a good day and getting my arse ripped a new hole for months on end courtousy of Jokerstars.

So bottom line is - my arse is really sore this month.

I wont go into too much detail but suffice to say - I win a game - and lose 200 playing the same way. Nothing particularly wrong with my game just a constant string of rip-off after rip-off after rip-off hands.

Tonight was the final straw in a £32 game - sat in 2nd for an hour - then just bad beat after bad beat after bad beat. A few I could handle - but it was every single hand I played - no matter if I was ahead when I went or called the all-in - no matter what was on the table I lost. And like I said this isnt a case of win one, lose a few , get close a few times - it's simply WIN ONE - LOSE THE REST UNTIL YOU ARE FORCED TO MAKE A NEW DEPOSIT.

So here is the real query:

I have a few quid left in Jokerstars which I will play out then I am out of here. No more Jokerstars for me - I finally admit defeat.

The problem is I still love playing poker and on-line (sadly) is the only way can do it because of my work. So - does anyone have any suggestions on a better site to play on?

    Any recommendations would be welcome.

    Thx all - andy

My best suggestion would be to read Bob's reviews of the different sites. Not only do different sites have different games, but they also have DIFFERENT PLAYERS. Pokerstars is an older and very popular site. The play is different from one site to the next so check out the reviews for more information on softer sites to play on.

hmmmm......this seems pretty normal to me. I don't think it has anything to do with the site. If you play at one long enough it will seem like that, tho. Why don't you sign up at Full Tilt and Carbon. That way you can play in the games we have here on the weekends. We have lots of fun.

If you're used to PS, then you will probably like FullTilt as it's the only other room that offer such varieties in poker games, but as you're a European player you have no limit in your choice.
So why don't you try first PKR and its astonishing 3D.
That will change you from PS for sure.

BTW, if you're looking for a room that doesn't allow bad beats to happen, then i think your quest will never end.

You say that, and I've never been a big fan of the merge network, but they do have some great overlays on their tournaments at the moment.

The op talks about playing a $32 game so should have no trouble playing the $11 satellites to the Sunday $50k which had a $13,000 overlay this weekend that's got to be worth a look.

Default check bankroll management and check game for holes

    hi

I can feel your pain - we all can at times

I tend to always say dont blame the site - it wont make a difference (in terms of "rigged" hands etc) as I dont feel the main sites RNG's are rigged or wildly different

what I do however feel is that different stakes of games at different sites will play fundamentally differently ... so pokerstars gets tougher quicker up the stakes than say carbon poker or bodog or pacific poker ... however some players may find they DONT like the looser gambler style of players (which they should still be able to beat BTW) but would like some of the intermediate players of pokerstars or fulltilt poker

really you should be able to beat the really poor players in the low stakes before playing higher and if you cant at least in principle then you shouldnt move up - but I can see some logic in finding that you are more comfortable beating some games over others ...

eg. I prefer and seem to play alot better in $2/4 NL fulltable games (this is my perference) than I can / do in $0.50/ 1 or $1/2 NL games particularly short table games ... I know the reasons for this (I push too much too often on short tables and also I fail to adjust and so I play incorrectly for the style of players in the 50 cent and $1 games) so I avoid those limits and either play at less than 25/50 cent games or play the $2/4 game that I can play better

but that doesnt help if players dont make the required changes to the types of players in each game and ways to exploit them (and crucially not get exploited)

not sure if all the games you were playing were $32 buyins ? or what these games were SNGs ? MTT's ? or cash games buyins

also what your total bankroll was for these games - alot of the time problems are simply down to playing buyins too big for a bankroll ...

which means it far far far more likely to go busto (maybe even several times) before you've even got to the reasonable variance of that game

however I'm guessing if you buying in for $32 tournies you know this already

however if your only winning one game for every 201 games played (which seems to be your suggestion) then you definately need to work on your game ... or was this 1 hand in 200 hands ? and not games

more info needed I think - but everyone is as always keen to help :-)

    cheers scrawnybob

    Default SuckoutStars.... ummm PokerStars

Hate to say it, but I'm in the same boat. I used to believe the "don't blame the site" mentality as well. I've been playing successfully for years in live rooms and on-line. In my opinion PokerStars has recently become VERY SLANTED. It's unfortunate, because it used to be one of the best sites out there, but if the cards aren't random.... and it's become extremely OBVIOUS that they aren't, then what good is the site? I'll be on the search of a site on which good solid play actually has a fighting chance.

I know... here come the comments about just being a bad player... perhaps others haven't had the same experience I have. Perhaps I've just made it on the SUCKOUTSTSARS beat down list. Really, you can only watch your solid hands aggressively played just to be sucked out at the river over and over and over again before you have to just say WTF? I've had bad runs before, but never like this. My advice... stay away from PokerStars. If you can, find a live card room.
