    Default Unlucky Lately...

Hello. Yesterday I played the 30pts. $300 freeroll tourney on bodog. 2nd or 3rd hand I was dealt kings, I think I was to the left of the BB. I opened, for around $200 I think (level 1 blinds 10/20), and 2 callers, villain directly to my left, and another on the button. Flop comes, all low cards, I fire out a pot-sized bet, villain raises me all in, and I call (dumb probably, but I thought I might be good, plus I was very committed now). Dude flips over a set of 7's. Oh well, it was for 30 pts.
Today, $500 freeroll, get dealt 10's, level 1, and make it $200. 2 callers. Go to the flop, all low and rainbow. I bet, dude raises, other player folds, I call (I am very deep in pot now). Turn comes a 6. I check (just to see what dude does, I figure he'll push, and I will call) dude pushes all in, I call. He flips over 6's, that he did not flop a set with. The highest card on the flop was a 7. He had an underpair to the board, and he raised my pot size bet on the flop, with no set. I call, and he turns EXACTLY the card he needs to save him, a 6! I think on the flop, he was a 1:9 underdog? 1:8? I am not sure, he would have been around 10% fav on flop, maybe 20% due because a str8 could be hit, runner runner. Anyways, no money was at stake in either tournament, but I am frustrated. It seems sometimes, you just DON'T catch cards, and everyone outdraws you. You can be the most skilled player in the world, but it is a game in which luck is at work. How did Doyle Brunson win with a 10-2o? He hit the flop, luck, chance, whatever you call it, was at work. The cards hit him. They could have hit his opponent instead, but would that make him a more skilled player? I don't think so. Oh well, maybe I overplayed my hands... Maybe I shouldn't get too deep in a hand so early, when players are likely to be very loose... I would just like to hear some comments about the 2 hands I mentioned. Thanx. Peace
P.S. I know I titled this "Card dead lately", and I tried to change it. Getting kings and 10's are not card dead. But I was getting crappy cards at other games. When I do get some cards, just get outdrawn, for all my chips both times. Unlucky lately.

I also play these "freerolls" at bodog often. Pts tourney isn't totally free, but Pts can be cashed for a penny a pt.(min 500 pts) so I guess you could consider that a 30 cent buyin. Anyway, you can figure anything in first hour of those, people will call and bet with anything. I'd say you did what you could and got out drawn, nothing you can do about it. Tough to put anyone on a set in first hand, and in second, can't blame the guy for thinking maybe his 6's are good with 7 high flop. Like I said, its basically free so he could figure you for just a big A. Hope things turn around for you.

Hey thanx man. I am finally starting to win a little again at 2c5c cash. I hope this means my run of cold cards and bad beats is over. I lost the other day with aces. Flopped a set, turned a boat (Aces full of 9's, thought i had the nutz), and lost to quad 9's for about $5. I lost with aces yesterday to on 2c5c. I make it 50c pre, and only BB calls. Flop comes unsuited, and unconnected, with a K and two low cards. BB checks, I push, he calls. He flips over K-Jo, and misses the turn, but pulls a 5-outer on river for another K. I was SOOOOOOOO pissed. I did everything in my power to take it down. I don't know how I could have played it better. Suggestions? Thanx.

Very ul in my opinion, but that is why i think people will over analyze and think poker, because no matter how much you read or study and can verbally recite to everyone about the way to play the game , if you go against what some call a donk, but i call someone that didn't care to read the rules of ABC poker then this kind of thing happens and no amount of pot odds or lingo will help you. Yes i also know that in the long run the more skilled and better read players will be winners but somehow it doesn't matter about " in the long run" when you just got beat by a donk in the NOW !

Yup. Very well said. The "longrun" is a grind only the most patient and controlled people are able to see. Since I posted this, I have now decided to quit playing cash completely. I have a huge leak there, and it is time to stop the leak. Perhaps I have been focusing on the wrong game. I hope in 3 weeks from now, my BR has grown substantially as a result of this decision.

From what i read in most of your posts it seems your play is mostly results orientated
You need to be concentrating more on doing the right thing
Try looking back over hand histories, not just of hands you lost but hands you won also, and see if you could have done things differently to maximize your wins or minimize your losses

    Good Luck

2nd or 3rd hand into freeroll dealt kings
I'm all-in pre-flop (win or sucked out) it is the best strategy for freerolls (with say 50+ entrants)

Most people end up going broke before the long run kicks in ; )

    Good Luck
Thank you for the good advice. But could you explain a little more what you mean specifically by results orientated? I value what you have to say, but I need some examples and all that. I have been going through HH on poker tracker, thats why I am not going to play much cash anymore. Anyways, thanx for the input, keep it coming.

poker - results orientated is the focus on an end result in a hand or playing session

example: I get it all-in with Aces 4 times and I get sucked out on 3 and the other time they all fold.
result orientated would say to start slow playing but what you should always be doing is the right play every-time
    win or lose
