Default How do I earn from my own Pokerhouse??

Hi!

I've been wanting to have my own pokerhouse right inside my house. I got a lot of friends and we only play whenever we have friends' gatherings.

I want to set my own pokerhouse and invite them to come over just to play. Offer them something to eat while playing, give them sodas, use my poker set and table & enjoy the coziness inside an air-conditioned room.

But of course, I want them to pitch in some amount for those luxuries.
Do I get some amount from the staked pot? A percentage from the big winner?

Any idea how to handle a pokerhouse?

Please let me know.

Thanks!

I suggest asking for $5 from each player who comes. Make it clear it is to cover food, drinks, expenses related to the game. It is illegal in many states to rake from a private game. You can chance it if you want. Typical rake is 10% with a cap of $3-$5.

Couldnt you just ask each person to bring something? i.e. food, drink, etc............

That's usually what I do...

It's illegal to take a rake...but your taking party complement money...so its not

My honest opinion is that they need to focusing on more immoral crimes.

What I would do it this....Sell Food and Drinks..

Make sick profit...and pay for your buyins.

Also what I've done is type out a rules sheet.

some of the rules were ....

a. winner cleans up.
b. if you not at the table, sitting down...and its your turn u fold.
c. no string bets.

if you set it up more like a casino...you'll have alot less mayhem.

I have games almost every weekend...it's bring your own beer/food. And if they dont pick up their beer cans, food wrappers, I turn into an asshole.

It sounds like you want to turn a profit from your friends....am I reading you wrong?

no, not really profit but just to compensate the expenses. actually, one friend already suggested that they would bring their own snacks & sodas. discussed to them about some expenses & they all agreed to me getting some percentage from each set of game.

The BYOB thing works for the most part, but if you are looking to get back some of the cost of your poker chips and table, you may need to have your friends kick up a few bucks each week. Personally I have never asked for loot, just bring enough beer , and beef jerky for me.

I would be careful about taking a rake, it is illegal and you would be suprised at how easy it is to be caught. It sucks because you would think that it is a scauflaw so who is paying attention but if one of your freinds gets mad about a bad beat or the nieghbors don't like the extra traffic or people outside smoking they could drop a dime on you. If it is reported to the police they are obligated to investigate it. I have heard of several poker rooms run out of peoples houses being busted in my area over the past couple of months. 1 of the people arrested is a friend of mine and he is in hot water at work over it.

I would recomend just asking for donations of a couple of bucks each game to cover expenses if it is really an issue.

Good Luck
