Default Something you probably already know

For MTTs what is a good return?
How often should you be cashing?
How often should you be making final tables?
How often should you be winning?

I felt this was pretty good, but now I am not entirely sure. Comments appreciated.

So I was looking through my stats. Here are my results in Doyle's Wednesday night $25 + $2.50 9:30PM tournament

    09/23 : 322 entrants : 234 : top 72.67% : no cash

    10/07 : 424 entrants : 134 : top 31.60% : no cash
    10/14 : 406 entrants : 004 : top 00.99% : $751.10 (final table)
    10/21 : 376 entrants : 049 : top 13.03% : $37.60
    10/28 : 318 entrants : 045 : top 14.15% : $34.98
    11/04 : 407 entrants : 162 : top 39.80% : no cash
    11/11 : 438 entrants : 055 : top 12.56% : $33.94
    11/18 : 449 entrants : 435 : top 96.88% : no cash
    11/25 : 677 entrants : 532 : top 78.58% : no cash
    12/02 : 636 entrants : 069 : top 10.85% : $39.75

    12/30 : 535 entrants : 119 : top 22.24% : no cash
    01/06 : 518 entrants : 343 : top 66.22% : no cash

    02/17 : 485 entrants : 319 : top 65.77% : no cash

    03/03 : 482 entrants : 081 : top 16.80% : no cash

    03/24 : 368 entrants : 127 : top 34.51% : no cash
    03/31 : 450 entrants : 391 : top 86.89% : no cash
    04/07 : 451 entrants : 198 : top 43.90% : no cash
    04/14 : 723 entrants : 107 : top 14.80% : $30.73 (free entry)

    06/02 : 304 entrants : 088 : top 28.95% : no cash
    06/09 : 256 entrants : 097 : top 37.89% : no cash
    06/17 : 280 entrants : 009 : top 03.21% : $143.50 (final table)
    06/23 : 234 entrants : 187 : top 79.91% : no cash

    07/07 : 246 entrants : 173 : top 70.33% : no cash
    07/14 : 267 entrants : 042 : top 15.73% : $29.37
    07/21 : 294 entrants : 026 : top 08.84% : $49.24

    Overall in this tournament:
24 paid entries ($660.00) and 1 free entry
    9 cashes ($1177.71) including 2 final tables 4th ($751.10) and 9th ($143.50)

    Gross winnings: $1177.71
    Net winnings: $517.71

Take away and the fourth place finish and this goes from okay/good to bad I think.

Curious thoughts on what a "good player" could have expected as far as results go?

If I were grading myself, I would give it a B- (slightly above average).

As always feedback and comments welcome.

It's a small sample size but personally I'd give it an A+.
It's not uncommon for even the very best MTT players to go for long stretches with no cashes.
The very best MTT regs. will usually have an ITM of between 9-12% (nowhere near as high as you'll see many of the micro players having).

Decent Return - any ROI above 0% imo. Over a large sample size (1,000+ mtts), above 40% is great, 20% is decent (imo).
Frequency of cashing - depends on number of entrants.. typically in micros ~20-25% is not uncommon for the winning micro buyin players... in higher buyins see above (9-12%)
Final Tables - depends upon the number of entrants
Winning - who knows? I've never taken 1st in a large field tourney (1,000+ players). I've had a handful of final tables. Not sure what the expectation is for actual wins though?? (in fields of 1,000+ players).

Youve cashed more than once every 3x you play it. (I guess I need to never play it again since I made $56 + refund the one time I played it). What is very noticable is that drop in people playing this tourny as when I played it only had 250 some people, and I see a few of yours have over 600 people which has got to make it a lot harder.

I bet that $750 cash though still is a motavator to keep playing it. I thought the tournny was pretty fun even though its a high buy in and no bounties every hit my table. The bounty people should be moving targets and have their tables switched every 5 hands as Caro and Russian Chick Bbrunson were at the same table for a long period of time when I played

Wonder what was so special in APril that over 700 people entered. I know I think different than most I see it as youve gotten to play all those Weds for Free + put ove $500 in your pocket. So it looks pretty good but those dry spells must really suck at $27.50 a pop. Id be pleased, that 4 month dry spell would be hard to keep playing it but then again you dont really know if was you or the power that be

Is this the bounty tournament Doyle runs every week? I played it years ago when it was $50+ $5 and knocked out Nikki Hilton for $500. It was awesome. I outflopped her with AJ against her QQ - ironically, called the Hilton sisters by some. I didn't go very far, but $500 for what amounted to a freeroll was a sweet payoff. Doyle refunds your entry fee the first time you play - at least he did back then. I would have folded the AJ but figured it was a $500 hand - let's take a chance.
